The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order 'by Mayor James Knaera at 800 of clock P. M. September 6, 192'7. Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present; Porter Gum Chamberlin. Perry Graves The minutes of .A.igast 16th were read and appr,oved, The report of the City Tr-easurer was presented and read. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Gum that the report be -i approved. The motion carried, The report of the Police Judge was presented and read, It was moved by Perry and, seconded by Chamberli.ng that the report' be approved. The motion oa lied. The motion carried, Mr. C.. E. Jeffries appeared before the Council in pro- test against the irrigation charge. After a short discussion, the Mayor referred the matter to the Water Committee for report at the next regular meeting. Mr. Wheeler appeared before the Council in protest against the construction of a sidewalk on Montana Avenue, between. Fourth and Fifth Streets at this time. He stated that he intended to put in sidewalk in the spring and said that he would not offer any objections to the City 'building it in the spring-if he failed to do sc. Thereupon the matter was dropped. Mr. Garvey and other members of the American Le ion ap- peared before the City Council and presented a check for ,100.00 from the Great Western Sugar Company for the construction of a gravel road from First Avenge to the West City Limits on Railroad Street. He stated that the American I,eion would give $75.00 and hold a City warrant, drawn on the Street Fund, until Jan-nary lst for $175.00, After some discussion, it was moved by Perm and seconded by Gum that the City accept the proposition as submitted and that the Mayor and. City Clerk be authorized to issue warrant sufficient to make up the balance of 4325.0.0 required to build the road. The motion ` carried. The bills for the m:on -h of, August were referred.- to the Finance Committee and after due deliberation, the committee reported back recommending the payment of the following bills. The. motion carried.. It was moved by Ferry -and seconded by Graves that the bills of Quili Bros, for $15035, Vera, Sturm:; f~nr, $60.00, Herbert Bailey for $16.-65 and Julius Pierce Pire Dept. S*Rpply Co. for $10.00 be paid out of the Operating Fund. The motion carried. The City Attorney reported a number of residents who were delinquent with their dog license fee. It was moved by Gum and seconded by :Perry that the City Attorney and kolice be instructed to take any acct ion necessary to collect' the deline- ent license. The motion carried, The mayor reported a settlement with Guy Bray for his de- linquent license. It was moved and seconded that the `settlement be approved, The motion carried. The Mayor reported that the American legion. had requested permission to use the City Hall for meeting purposes, After some discussiron. _ it was moved by PoTtef and seconded by Chamberlin that they be permitted to use it and the Clerk be instructed to collect 41:..00 per meeting for heat . and j ani-tpr! s services* The motion carried. The crossing at Sande's Drug Stare was discussed and referred to the Street and Alley Committee. It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn.
