P. M. May 3, 1927. The Police Judge's report was presented and read.. It was moved by Gum and seconded by Coy that the report be approved. The motion carried. i? The Mater Commissioner's report was presented and read. It was moved by Coy and seconded by Chamberling that the report be approved. The motion carried. The. Mayor,. stated that nominations for president , of t he Rouneil were now in order. Thereupon, R. E. Goy'.was 'nominated by Ed Gum. It was moved by Perry and seconded by Hartley that nom- inations-be closed. and that R, R .Goy be declared elected president of the Council. The motion carried.. The Mayor made the following appointments for the ensuing term of office; For City Attorney, B... L. Price. It was moved by Goy and .secon:ded by Gum that the appointment be approved, The motion carried. For Clerk., Engineer and Mater Commissioner, T. A. Ri griey. It was moved.by Gum and seconded by Porter that the appointment be approved... The motion carried. ?I For City Health Officer, Dr. W. E. Tupper. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Gum that the appointment be approved. The motion carried. For Police Officer, Henry Herbert, and City's share of salary to be $75.000 It was moved by Coy and seconded by Perry that this appointment be approved. F Speckeen, Miss Ruth Nutting, It was moved by ferry and seconded by Coy that the appointments be approved.. The motion carried, .The Mayor stated that he would make the appointman t ,cf Chief of Fire Department after the firemen had made their selection. The Mayor nerved the following standing-committees: El? FINANCE-Coy, Graves, Guru. SIGHT & WATER-Perry, Chamberlin, Vor Bahl. STREET & ALLEY-Coy, Hartley, Chamberlin, SEWER-Porter, Gum, Hartley. FIRE & POLICE-Perry, Porter, Graves. PARKS--Gum, Porter, Vor dahl. The Mayor made a short talk in which he commended the former administration for the showing $ade in the debt situation and pledged his co-operat ion as long as the polic y was maintainers. He stated that he was heartily in favor of necess ary improvements so long as they were cons istent with the City's e conomic' policy. The bills for t he month of April were r eferred to the. It was moved by Coy. and seconded by Hartley that the bill of Vera Sturm for 050.00, Quilico Bros. for $18.25, Vern Johnson for $7.9.97, American Sure ty" Cs. for $76.00, Yello wstone Bank for $3.00 and C. G Rich for- $7.50 be paid out of the Operating Fund. The motion carried. - A bond for `$50Q.00 for R. J. Williams, Police Judge, by the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company, was presented and t Minutes- of the City Council of Laurel Laurel, ontana, _ May, 1927* read. It wasJ'.movdid by Perry and seconded by Coy that the bond be approved., The motion carried. Mr. P. H. Hohman appeared before the Council and stated that he had filed application for pumping the City water. Thereupon, the Mayor instructed the Clerk to read his bid. There being no motion in regard to it, _the Mayor referred the matter to the Water Committee for report at the next regular meeting, It was moved by Coy and seconded by Hartley that action be taken the next meeting on all graveling petition that had been f fled. The motion carried. A letter from Bosworth-Chanute bonding house was read- and ordered filed. Mr.. R. J. Williams appeared before the Council to discuss the matter of insurance for the firemen4 It was moved by Coy and seconded by Hartley that the matter be referred to the committee on file and police for report at the nest regular meeting of the City Council, The motion carried. The chairman of the Street and Alley committee reported a conversation with Quilico Brothers in regard to buying a Ford Tractor and stated that they had dragged the streets-for a day and a half during the :Phst month, After some discussion, it was moved by Perry and seconded by Hartley that the matter be referred to the Street and Alley committee for their" recommendation at the next meeting of the City Council. The motion carried. Mr. Coy reported that Dr. McCauley had requested the C-Jty to remove the excess dirt in the alley back of the Spencer- McCauley building and stated that they would gravel it if the City would do that much. It was moved by Coy and seconded by Hartley that the City Engineer be instructed to make an estimate on the cost of this work, The motion carried. The matte f of graveling South First Avenue and Railroad Street was discussed. The Mayor instructed the Street and Alley committee to, get in.t.ouch with the County Commissioners before the next regular meeting of the, City Council in order that definite plan might be submitted. LJ It was moved by Coy and seconded by Hartley that the City Attorney be instructed to no ?Uify property owners to request their co-operation in the annual cleanup by removing old automobiles and farm machinery not ordinarily classified as garbage in order to give the City a more sightly appearance, The motion carried.
