Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Laure 1, Montana,
March 1; 19270
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular.
session in the Oouncil Chamber in the City Hall and was called
to order by President of the Counci R. E. Coy at `8:00 of clock
P, M. March 1, 1927.
Upon roll. call, the following Aldermen answered present;
Porter
Chamb erlin
Gum
Perry
Vor dahl
Graves
Hartley
The minutes of February 16th were reado. It was moved
by Perry and seconded by Graves that they be approved as read.
The motion carried.
The report of the City Treasurer was read. It was
moved by Gum and seconded by Porter that the report be approved,
The motion carried.

The report of the Police Judge was read, It was moved
by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the report be'approved.
The motion carried.
The report of the Police Officer was read. It was
moved, by Chamberlin and seconded `gy Graves that the report be
approved. The motion carried.
The bills for the month of February, 1927, were re-
ferred to the Finance Committee and after due deliberation., the
committee reported back recommending the payment of the follow-
ing b ills

It was moved by Perry and seconded by Pe*ter that the report
of the committee be_ accepted and that warrants be issued in
payment thereof. The motion carried, {
It was moved by Perry and seconded by Guth that the bills of
Billings Gas Co, for $2 291 City Water Depto for $18,04, Laurel
Outlook for $8„75, Quilico Bros. for $17.00 and Vera Sturm for
$50,00 be paid out of the Operating Fund. The motion carx led.
The Water Committee reported in regard to the Water
for the Strand Theatre and recommended that the hater Commissioner
be instructed to settle with the Strand Theatre for fifty 'per
cent. of the total amount of bills for November, December and
January. It was moved by Gum and seconded by Chamberlin that,
the -report of the Water Committee - e accepted. The motion
carried.
9 letter from Mr. Holly in regard to a broken window
at the Pool Hall was read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded
by Porter that the matter be: referred to the Water Committee.
The motion carried.

Laurel, I4ontana.
March 1, 1927,
This being the time set to receive bids for power
and lights, the Clerk was instructed to open and read all bids
submitted. Thereupon, the bid of the Montana Power Company,
being the only bid submitted, was read. It was moved by Gum
and seconded by Perry that the Mayor and City Clerk be author-
ized to inter into contract with the Montana Power Company in
accordance with their bid. The motion carried.
The matter o'f Mr. Beighley's building be located on
the space allowed for sidewalk was discussed. It was moved by
Perry and seconded by Gum that he be instructed to move his
building. The motion carried,
ORDINANCE NO. 28'7.
Ordinance No. 2811, being an ordinance providing for -11
the punishment of those selling,liquors illegally, was pre--.
sented and read. After some discussion, it.was zeferred to
the Committee on Fire and Police. "After due deliberation, the
committee reported back recommending its immediate passage.
It was moved by Gum and seconded by Vordahl that the report
of the committee be adopted and that the unanimous consent
and vote of the Council be had to. place Ordinance. No, 28:7 upon
its immediate passage. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present
voted aye, It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley
that said Ordinance No, 287 be 1D&ssed and adopted. Upon roll
call, all aldermen present voted aye and said ordinance was
declared passed and adopted.
The matter of placing a crossing at the corner of
Third Street and Sixth Avenue was discussed. It was moved by
jiordahl and seconded by 'Hextley that the Street and Alley
committee be requested to report on it at the next regular
meeting of the City Council. The motion carried..
The resignation of H. C. Knudsen as Mayor of the. City
of Laurel was presented. and read. It-was moved by Vordahl and
seconded by Hartley that his resignation be accepted. The
motion carried.
Thereupon, the President of the Council stated that
it Would be in or der to elect a Mayor for the unexpired term.
It was moved by Porter and seconded by Gum that R. E. Coy be
elected Mayor to fill the unexpired term of H. C. Knudsen. The
motion carried.
Thereupon, R. E. Coy. tendered his resignation as
Alderman from the First Ward., It was moved by Vordahl and
seconded by Hartley that his resignation be accepted. The
motion carried.
It was moved by Porter and seconded by Vordahl that
C. W. Laird be elected Alderman from the First Ward to fill
the unexpired term of R. E. Coy, The motion carried.
It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn,
The motion carried.
