i Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Laurel, Montana, Api 1930, The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in t-he Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor James gucera at 8:00 o' clock P. M. Tuesday April 19 1930. Upon roll call, the fallowing Aldermen answered present: ?., Brohaugh Barney 0" or 31-n Perry_ 4Q rdahl Graves' :. The minutes of Mareh IOU, were read.and approved. There heing a number of visitors present from the South Side, the mayor stated the regular routine of business -would be.dispensed with and would give them an opportunity to talk. A petition was read in which they requested the ditch on the south side of Railroad Street would be moved, After some discussion, it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Perry that .the Mayor name a committee of the Council and a committee of the residents of tier South Side to confer with the water users. The motion carried. Thereupon, the Mayor appointed Vordahl, Porter and Brohaugh for the Council and V. B. Perry, Carl Barthaly and Phil. Michael, Jr. for the South Side. The City Clerk was in- structed-to request a meeting with the water users. at the City Hall April 5th at 9: 00 o' cla.ok ,. M. Porter arrived and participated in- the further delib- orations of the Cooneil The report of the City Treasurer' was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Graves that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Water Commissioner was presented and ' read. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Vordahl that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of Police was presented and read. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Porter that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police Judge was presented and read,. It was moved by Chamberlin and seconded by Barney that the report . be approved. The motion carried. It was moved by Perry and seconded by Porter that the report of the Committee be adeegted and that warrants be issued'in the manner recommended by the committee. The motion oar=ied. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Porter that the bill of City later Department for $3.02, H. 0. Wiest for $42.75, 'Billings Gas Company for V5.93, Henry Miller for $5.50, Geo. 5treek, Jr* for V6 50, Fred Ludwig for $4.00, Henry Kaiser for $15.00, Fred Reil for V15025, Montana. Power Company foss 413.24, Dr. G. E. Thomas for $5.00, laurel outlook for X13.65, Geo. J. Leis for $2,00 and Yellowstone Garage fog 7.,25 be paid out of the Operating Fund. The motion cancied b#11 of W. J. Belden for Poll Tag refund was rejected. GEDINANOB 50, 299' Ordinance No. 297, being an ordinance ppnhibiting the explosion, use and sale of-fireworks, eta,, within the City of i Laurel, was presented for second reading and final passage.by the Fire and Police Committee with the recommendation that it be passed and adapted. It was moved by Barney and seconded by Perry that the report of the Comfit-ee be -acoep' ted and that said ordinance be placed upon its final passage. The motion carried. It was moved by Barney' it and seconded by Perry that in=ce No. 297 be finally passed and adopted. Upon roll 0411, all Aldermen presentr-votoied..ayw. and said ordinance was declared finally passed and adopted. I ORDINANGE NO. 29$ dinance No. 298, being an ordinance regulating public dance halls within the City of Laurel, was offered and presented by Alderman Cmberlin whereupon at the direction of the Mayor, the same was-7dal read b the City Clerk the first time and laced upon its passage It was moved bAlderman Perry and seconded by Alderman Porter that said ordinance oe passed, upon roll call, the-following Aldermen voted aye; Brohaugh, Barney, Chamberlin, Perry, $ordahl, Graves, Porter. No, none, and the said ordinance j was declared passe: on first reading' The Mayor then referred the ordinance to the Fire and Police Committee with instructions to I report thereon at t:he next regular meeting, being the meeting of April 15t'193.0 and-;before the final vote of adoption of said . ordinance, After some discussion of gas tanks underneath the side- walks "bit was moved by Perry and seconded by Brohau that the City Attorney be requested to prepare contracts for the installa- tion of gas tanks under the sidewalk. The motion carried. The City Engineer was instructed to draw' standard plans for driveway approach. It was moved by Barney and seconded by Porter that the stenographer be authorized to have typewriter overhauled. The motion carried. A communication from the Fire Department was presented in which they requested that kete Boggio and Robert Thompson be dropped from the list of Volunteer Fire Department and recommended Dave Calkins and Maurice Holmes for new members. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Perry that Pete Boggio and Robert Thompson be dropped from the list of firement. Thereupon, the Mayor ap- pointed Dave Calins and Maurice Holmes to fill the vacancies. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Perry that the appointments' .be I i approved.
