The Cite Council o f the City of Laurel met in regular session in the.Council Chamb ers in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor R. Brought onat 8:00 o' clock F. M. Sept. 1, 1931. Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present: Bray i' Porter Click Chamberlin Vor Bahl Hurless Graves Hartley The minutes of August 4th and 18th were read and approved. i' The report of the City Treasurer for the month .of August was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded',hy , Hur3ess that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police Judge for the month of August was presented and read. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Hartle that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of Police for the month of Aagast was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconied ty Rnrless that the report be approved. The motion carried. The annual report of the Z ity ;Clerk was presented and read. It was moved by Graves and, seconded by Porter that the report- be ap. - -proved. the motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 311 An Ordinance repealing section 210, of Article 3, of Chapter 4, of 4r4ina . e No. 228,. relating to soft drinks was presented and read. The motion was made by Graves and seconded by Hartley that this ordinance be passed upon its first reading. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye. OR13I33ACF(. 312 An Ordinance amending section 212 of Article 3, of Chapter 4, of ordinance No. 228, relating to soft drinks; was presented and read. The motion was made by Hartley and seconded by Chamberlin: that this ord- inance be passed upon its.first reading. Territ, Fire Chief, appeared before the City Council in regard to some new equipment. It was moved by Hartley; and second- ed by Huriess that thp. committee on Fine and `Police be instructed to secure new gas masks, fifty feet of garden hose, and two couplings as soon as prices could be secured, The City Clerk was instructed to write .. Stowffer in re- gard to his open oellar-way in the alley at the Yellowstone Rooms, It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Chamberlin that the Chief of Police be requested to write for references for fir... Kelly. The motion carried. After some discussion in regard to driveways on Main Street, it was moved by Hartley and seconded by Graves, that the Ghief of Police notify Mr. Quilioo and Mr. Kass that unless proper approaches be made within 30 days the city would take aoti©xs. After some discussion regarding the smoke house on the prem- ises now occupied by the City arket, it, was moved by gordahl and sec- ended by Hartley that L. C. H4ikeon, of Columbus, the owner of said building, be notified that this building would be° condemned if not re- paired immediately. A petition some of the property owners in Block 1,. East Laurel, Subdivision, and Block 1, Laurel Realty Subdivision, in which they re- queste-4that the Power and Telephone Co. lines be placed under ground through the alley was read. After some 'discussion, the petition was ordered filed for future consideration. It was moved ky Ha_ rt3ay and seconded by Chamberlin that the Clerk notify the manager of the Montana power Co to clean alt paint the street light poles. Mr. Porter stated that it would be necessary for him to leave ORBIVANGE NO. 313 An Qr=ddinanee requirizig a license for hotels and rooming houses, providing for application for a' license, police inspection, revocation of rooming house and hotel licenses, fixing the amount of ,license fee, prescribing -a penalty for violation of the ordinance, and repealing all ordinances in conflict therewith was presented and read.. The motion was made by Vorda.hl and seconded by Bray that this ordinanc3e=.?be passed upon its first reading. Upon roll call all aldermen.pre.sent voted aye. The City Engineer's Bst>ima to No. 1 and final in the amount of $3,500.00 for improvements " eo "' Aeted in Special improvement District No. 1 69 by C. W. Laird, Contractor, was presented and read. It was moved by i Voxdahl and ae-eonded by Hartley th-a.t` the Mayor and City Clerk be author- ised to issue bond$rAa the amount of $3,500.00, as soon as the contractor had deposited with the City-Treasurer $287.92 for engineering fees and incidental expenses. The motion carried. HE.S OLUT I ON NO. 395, Resolution No. 395, being a nesolation levying and assessing a tax upon the property described as lots 2 and the south 58 feet of 1 lot 10 in ?dock 1 Laurel Realty Subdivision, and lot 10 in block 2 Laurel Realty ;Subdivision, of the City of Laurel, Montana., to defray the cost of making improvements abutting on said property was presented ,for final passage. The Clerk produced proof of posting and stated that no protests had been received except'. from F. J. Valek. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Chamberlin that the protest be declared insuf- ficient and that resolution No. 395 be finally passed and adopted. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and said resolution was declared finally passed and adopted. ... ....... ...... .. . Minutes of the City Council of Laurel A letter from Mr. dennerd in regard to south-side property µ for park purposes was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the matter be referred to the park committee. The motion carried. The contract with the Govan kotor Company for storage of the fire truck was presented and read. The motion was made by Vordahl and seconded by Glick that the contract be approved. The motion carried. A supplementary contract for street lighting by the Montana 1?ower f,ompany was presented and read. It was moved by Hurless and sea.- ended by Vordahl that the contract be approved. The motion carried. from Mrs. DeFranae A request/ for permit-to oonstruot two garages 181$42' on her lots in block i$,.Nutting Brothers Subdivision, was presented and mead. It was moved by Hartley and seconded-by Hurless that the per mit be granted. The motion carried. A request for permit to occupy part of the street during eon- struetion of a basement for his residence by Alex Fritzler was presented and read. It was moved by Bray and seconded by Chamberlin that the per- mit be granted. The motion carried. After some discussion in regard to gravel in the alley in block 5 East tauxeil Subdivision- it was moved by Vordahl and seconded
