Laurel, Montana,
July 21, 1931.
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regillar
session: in the Council Chamber in the.City Hall and was called
"by Mayor R. Broughton at 8:00 ofeloek P. M.- Tuesday July.21, 19310
Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answere present:
Porter
Bray
Chamberlin
Glick
Vordahl
Hurless
Graves
Hartley.
?G The minutes of Jul? ?, 1931 were read and approved.
--' dir. `rank Wright appeared before the City Council
in regard to license for soft drink parlors. After some dis-
cussiori, it was moved by Hartlsy and seconded by Vordahl that a
special committee be appointed to inve s tigata the charge for
soft drink parlor license. The motion carried. Thereupon the
Mayor appointed Click, Porter and Bray to serve on this commit-
tee, and requested a report at the next regular meeting of the
City Council.
Mrs. Hattie Powell appeared before the Cjty Council
with a request for license to operate a rooming house. After
some discussion, it was moved by Bray and seconded,by"Hurless
that she be granted a license to run a rooming house, providing
it be operated in the same manner as before the trouble.
Mr. Ba`gbg appeared before the City Council in regard
to a location for his popcorn stand. After some discussion, the
mayor referred the matter to the Street and Alley committee.
Mr. Allan Vannice, William Sidwell and ethers ap-
peared before the City Council in Bard to a 'request to ap-
pear to discuss the wooden sidewalk.Aroblem. They;stated that
they would put in the .,concrete as soon as possible, and would
keep the wooden sidewalks in proper repair until they started
construction,

A letter from the secretary of the Volunteer Fire De-
partment in which they recommended L. W. Territt for fire Cheif
and Leo Suddith, and Dale Smith for new members. Thereupon the
Mayor appointed L. W. Territt Fire Cheif and Leo Suddith and
Dale Smith as members of the Fire Department. It was moved by
Chamberlin and seconded by Graves that the appointments be ap-
proved The motion carried.
Mr. R. D. Wilks of 549 3rd Avenue South., Billings,
Montana, appeared before the City Council in regard to paint-
ing the water tank. He was instructed that the-.,-City Council
would advertize for painting when they were ready to let a
contract.
Mr. Freebury appeared before the City Council in re-
gard to the twelve otelock closing hour and requested that he
be permitted to stay open later than that hour. The Mayor re-
ferred the matter to the Police Committee. The Committee re-
ported that they were ready to report and that they were not
in favor of changing the closing hour. It was moored and sec-
onded that the report of the committee be adopted.4Lnd that his

This being the time set for receiving bids for the
construction of improvements in Special Improvement District
No 69, the Clerk was instructed to open and read all bids sub-
mitted. The bids were as follows:

Thereupon the bids were referred to the Street and Alley ;
committee. after due deliberation the Committee reported back

reeommending that the contract be awarded to-C. W. "Laird. It
was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hurless, that the report
of the Committee be adopted, the bid of C. W. Laird be accepted;
the contract be awarded to C. W. Laird and the Mayor and City
Clerk be authorized to enter into a contract with him The mo-
tion carried.
It was moved by Vorddahl and seconded by Bray that the
City Clerk` be authorized to return Barry OtLearyfs' certified
check. The motion carried.
A bill of The Mountain States Tgle Lone & Telegraph
Company i1i"the amount of $13040 and a bill, far The urel Vol-
unteer Fire Department in the amount of 78.00 , was resented
and'read It was moved by Hurlees and seconded by 'Chamberlin
that the bills be allowed.. The motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO 390.
Re-solution No. 390, being a resolution levying taxes
for general and specific purposes for the City of Laurel, Mont-
ana., for the fiscal year beginning July lst, 1931, was present-
ed and read It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Graves
that said resolution be passed and adopted. The motion carried.
Mr. Hartley was excused at this time,
RESOLUTION NO. 391.
Resolution No. 391, being a resolution lei and
assessing all of the property embraced` within Special Improve-
ment Lighting District No. 3 of the City of? Laurel, Montana.,
with three-fourths of the entire cost of maintePnanee and elec-
trid current for the yeear 1931, was presented and r,ead ' It
was moved by Graves and seconded by Chamberlin that said reso-
lution be provisionally passed and adopted. Upon roll call,
all `Aldermen present 'voted aye and said resolution was declared
;z provisionally passed.
RESOLUTION NO. 392.

Resolution No. 392, being a resolution levying and
assessing all of the property embreed` within Special Bnprove

current for the, year 1931, was presented and read. It
was moved by Chamberlin and see.onded by Hurless thAt said reso-
Iasion' be provisionally passed and adopted. Upon roll call,,
all Aldermen present voted aye and saia resolution was 'declared
provisionally passed.
RESOLATION NO. 393.
Resolutlon No. 393, being a resolution levying and
assessi a _ 6rta. n ._ property embraced within Spec al Ibproue-
ment District No 4- for gipping into trunk line sewer of the
City of "Laur'el, was presented' and read. It was moved by Vor-
dahl and seconded by Graves that said res olutioti be provi`si on.-
ally passed and adopted. Upon roll call,-all Aldermen present
voted aye and said resol'at on was declared provisionally passed.

RESOLUTION NO.
Resolution No. ;394, being a resolution levying and

assessing a special tax against certain designated property for
the removal of garbage, snow, weeds and refuse, was presented
and r6ad. It was moved by Chamberlin and, seconded by Glick that
said resolution be provisionally passed and adopted. Upon roll
call, all Aldermen present voted aye and said resolution was
declared provisionally passed.

It was reported that someone had fallen into the
air-way or basement-way into the Yellowstone Rooms, The mat-
ter was referred to the Street and Alley comet' ittee.
It was moved by Hu.rless and seconded: by Vordahl that
the City Clerk request Mr. Braswell to appear before the City
Council at the next regular meeting in regard to his rabbit
pen. The motion carried.
It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Bray that we
do now adjourn. The motion carried.
