The City Council of the City of L4:urel met in, regular session in the Gauncil Chambers in the City Hall and was called to order by Iffayar R Broughton at 8:00 o'clock P. M. June 7th, 1931.. Ugan roll call the fallowing aldermen answered present: Porter Bray Chamberlin Click Hurless Hartl y Graves The minutes of Tune 16th. and June 30th, 1931, were reed and approved. mrs. Eai.ly Shaffer appeared before the City Council regard to notice sent here instructing her to connect with the sewer. it was moved lay Hartley and seconded by Hurl-ess tha:t the matter be referred to the serer committee. The motion carried. Mrs. Pontius appeared before the City Council in regard to campers on vacant p aperty adjacent to her stare. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Bray that a committee be appointed."ta investigate the complaint. The motion carried. Thereupon the Mayor appointed Porter and Hartley and Graves to investigate this matter. The report of the Pol c-e Judge was presented. and read: it was moved by Gra-wes and seconded by Hartley that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Cheif of Pold-ce was presented and 'read. it was moved lay Chamberlin and seconded by Hartley that the re-, port be approved. The motian carried. The report of the City Trea-surer for the mouth of June was presented and read it was -moved by Hartley and seconded by Hurless that the report be approved. Mr. Price, chairman of tha Park Committee, appeared be fore the Council and stated that the Park Committee were Ln. con- ference with ark agent of a Ca.rniva-l pomp any and requested that the license be past in favor of the Park Committee. It was moved by Porter and.--seconded by Bray that his request be granted. The motion carried. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Hurless that First Street, between First Avenue and Montana- Avenue, be closed during the ea.rnival. The motion carried.. A request, from E. R. cessions to run a Pool Hall and- presented and read. It was moved by Hartley Soft Drink Parlor was and seconded by Graves that the request be denied. The inatlon carried. A regu-est>from the State Fire Marshal to the City Council requesting that Firemen be sent to the three-day school wh=ich; th=ey are going to put on was ordered `tatled:, A. request for a permit t4 can:struct a frame huilding opposite the Laurel Mill-ing. Britton for a 1?e unit to remodel his dwelling was presented and read. it was moved by porter and seconded by Craves that the permit.be granted. The motion carried. A request for license from C. M,. Harp eras presented and read. it was moved by Hurless and seconded by Hartley that his application be granted prd.xiding, the false petition be taken out of the building, all bar fixtures be removed, the building ; cleaned out and providing none of the former employees are retained in his service. Them do carried. _ A request from the laurel Creamery to have the water rates reduced for their business was presented: and read. It was mowed by Hartley and seconded by Dray that no action be taken. The motion carried. a Bar. Porter was excused at this time ? The Street and Alley,Gommittee reported on wood 'side walks. it was moved by Hairless and seconded by Bray that the owners of all faulty wooden sidewalks be requested to appear be- fore the City Council, and the City LI?gineer be instrudted to re- move one block of wzjk on the west en-d- of Fourth Street and to tear out all defective wooden cross walks. The oration carried., It was reported that T. H. Crutcher offered to replace one block of wood s"ewa.lk between Fifth and. Sixth. streets providing, _the City would obtain the cinders It was moved. by Hartley and seconded by Hurless that this request` be granted. The motion carried. The Committee on Light and Water reported recomme xtdin that the prGpo sed ordinance on electrical wiring, be tabled.: The same was ordered tabled for the present.. , A bill in the amount of $6U.-GO for W. I.. Chamberl-i-al nd for writing tax books, and a bill for $2.00 for Poll Tax R4-fu' to Mr. M. R. Walton was presented. It was moved by Click and Bray that the bills be allowed. The raotian carried.
