Minutes of the City Council of Laurel may 19, 1931. The City Council of the City of Laurel, Montamt, met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8 o'clock P. M. May 19, 1931. Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present: Brag Barney Chamberlin Hu.rle ss Hartley Graves The minutes of May 5 and May 8 were read. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Bray that the minutes be approved. The matto" n carried. A petition for the setting up of a gas pump and tank on Main Street in front of Pontius Store was presentednEind read. After some discussion it was ma?ved by Hartley and seconded by Hurless that the matter be referred to the Street and Ailey committee and the City Engineer. The motion carried. F. 11. Barney appeared before the City Council in regard to the dairy license and reported that some were making no attempt to comply with the, ordinance. After some discussion it was moved by Graves and seconded by Hartley that the Health Officer be instructed to inspect the dairies and report any irregularities. The motion carried. After some discussion of police matters, it was moved by Hartley and seconded by Barney that Mayor and Chief of Police be authorized to hire extra police when necessary. The motion carried. The Fire Committee gave a short report on using the fire Truck outside of the City and requested additional time for a study of the matter. After some distcussion of the fire hazard in the allies back of Main Street, it was moved by Hartley and seconded by Chamberlin that the Mayer ap- point a com ittee to investig a it. The motion carried. Thereupon the Mayor appointed on that committee to serve with the Chief of the Fire Department Mr. Hurless and Mr. Craves. The Finance committee reported that they had bought an International Truck for $964.0. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by GraveO that the . Clerk be instructed to purchase an extra tire for the truck. The motion carried. After some discussion of copper pipe, it was moored by Barney and seconded by Chamberlin that the Water apmmissioner be instructed to purchase five hundred feet or more, in order to ge a tenievying er cent discount.. Motion parried, Resolution Bow 387, being s Resolut n and assessing tai aeon all, property embraced within Special Improvement District No. 68 to do-flay the cost of improvements within said district, was presented and read. It was poved by Barney and seconded by Hartley that said Resolution No. 38'7 be provisionally pas#ed. Upon eU call all Aldermen present voted aye,an.d said resolution was declared pro- -visionally pasted. in.g I Resolution No. 388, be/a Hesolution„intention to create special Improve- ment Bistriet No.. 69 of the pity of Carmel , for aoustruation of a concrete pavement in the Bast and West alleys of Block one, Bast Laurel Subdivision, and Block one, Laurel Realty Subdivision, was presented and read. It was mowed by Hartley and seconded by Bray that said resolution No. 388 be passed. Upon roll call all Alder- men present voted aye, and said resolution was declared passed and adopted. An Ordinance regulating Electrical miring and providing for fixtures, inspeotor,; etc., was referred to the committee on Light and Water. The Clerk reported that-the Laurel Outlook would print the tax books at t'L the rate of 500 sheets and two binders four $90.©O plus 10.00 for each 100 sheets above that -amount. It is metered by Grave's' and seconded by Hurless that the Clerk be instructed to order 660 sheets After some disoussion in regard to culverts, ita moved by Barney anal- seconded by Chamberlin that the City Engineer be i rs trueted to pcarebase si: i -- thirty-foot culverts. The City Attorne y was requested to no of the nears, whose ditch runs along the-went side of Alder Avenue, that it would, be necessary to keep their ditch in repair.and elean:.
