Upon roll call the following Aldermen answered present; Bray . Chamberlin Barney Vordahl Hurlers Graves Hartley Mr. Haberkorn, representative of the Eureka Fire Hose Company appeared before the City Council and explained the merits of his fire. hose. rafter some discussion, it was moved by Hartley and seconded by Vordahl that the Fire Committee meet with the Fire Department to test the hose and report back to the City Council if additional hose 'are needed at this. time-. The motion carried. The Mayor' read his Proclamation, outlining his policies for thettemm.and asked for the support and cooperation of the Council in these matters. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Barney that the Mayor appoint a committee` of three from the City Council to cooperate with him in an effort to rid the business district of gambling joints and boot-leggers dives. The motion carried. The 11ayorvthat he would name his committee later. stated It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Barney that the Ua or appoint a committee of three to investigate the salaries and expenses of the City of Laurel, in order to ascertain if any sav- ing could be made. The motion carried. The ]dayor stated that he would name the committee later. The Mayor appointed Wilbur B. Wiggins stenographer. It was mewed by Barney and seconded by Hartley that ;the appointment be approved. The motion carried. The Mayor appointed Herbert Bailey Chief of Police. It was moved by Chamberlin and seconded by Graves that the appointment be approved. The motion carried. The Mayor appointed B. L. Price City Attorney. It was moved by Barney and seconded by Vordahl that the appointment be approved. The motion carried. The -Mayor appointed Rx. E. C. Hall Health Officer. It was moved by Chamberlin and seconded by Hurlers that the appoint- ment be approved. The motion carried. The Mayor appointed T. A. Rigney City Clerk, City Engineer, and Water Commissioner. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the appointment be approved. The motion carried. The Mayor appointed Dirs. C. L. Morris, Mrs. 0. id. gold, and Mrs. Joseph Gehrett as members of the Library Board. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Barney that the appointments be approved. The motion carried. The Diayor appointed Joe hicholas on the Police Force. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Barney that the appointments be approved. The motion carried. lifter some discussion of a truck to be used for the street, garbage, and water department, it was moved by Hartley and seconded l by Barney that the Mayor appoint a committee with instructions to purchase a truck under x,1,000.00. The motion carried. Thereupon the Mayor referred the matter to the Finance Committee. E L urel, Montana, May 8, 1931. After some discussion of electric wiring orindance,.- it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley tYat the City At- torney be instructed to draw an ordinance similiar to the one presented by the Mayor. The motion carried. Estimate No. 2 and final for Grant F. Lamport & Co. in the amount of 46,600.00 was presented and read. It was moved by Vowdahl and seconded by Chamberlin that the estimate be al- l,owec, and the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to issue bonds in the amount of $6,600.00, upon the filing of the necessary papers and the payments to the City for the incidental expenses. The motion carried. The Mayor received a call and reported that it would be necessary for him to leave the meeting. Thereupon, Graves, Pres- ident of the Council, took the chair and presided for the rest of the meeting. A bill in the amount of $946.00 for extra gravel deliv- ered by Grant F. Lamport & Co. was presented and read. It was moved by Barney and seconded by Hartley that the bill be allowed. The motion carried. After some discussion in regard to an easement aerost First Avenue South and along the.road to the South City limits, it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the City Attorney be instructed to draw a suitable easement providing for culverts and necessary construction for the Laurel Oil & Refin- ing Company. The motion carried. The reg4est from Mrs. Koehler to construct a frame garage on Lot 15 Block 2 Laurel Realty Subdivision was presented and read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Barney that the pa rm-it be refused. the motion carried. It is mowed by Barney and seconded by Vordahi that we do now adjourn.
