I The City Council of the City of Laurel met in inf atma.l _ manner at the request of Mayor Broughton in the Council Cha mber in the City Hall and was called to order by James Lueera, r etired Mayor, to discuss any unfinished; business, and adjourned until 9:00 o'clock P. The bills for the month of April vere referred to the Finance Committee and after due deliberation, the Committee report- ed back recommending the payment of the following 'pills: Railway Express agency, 93.33 Henry Kaiser 1102.50 H. Clerk & Recorder 72.85 The Fashion Shop 6.04 City Water Dept. 39.82 Perry & Tubman 3.68 It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Chamberlin that the report of the Committe be accepted and that warrants be issued in the manner recommended by the Committee. The motion carried. It was moved by RrmV and seconded by Graves that the bills of The Montana, Power Company for 410.24, Davis Transfer Co for 14.00, Herbert Bailey for X6.70, Joe Nicholas fox ? &.00, Laurel Outlook for ? 20.80, R. J. Williams for X49.65, Yellowstone Bank fox X3.50, and ?. Fritz for $25.00 be paid out of the Operating Fund. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of Police was presented.. and::Yead. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Hartley that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police Judge was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Treasurer was presented and read. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Hartley that the report be approved. The motion carried. l Minutes of the City Council of Laurel e.. Laurel, Montana May 1931. The,Mayor announced that the Council should be organized at this time. Thereupon Geo. Graves was nominated as President of the Council. It was moved by Chamberlain and seconded by Vordahl that Geo. Graves be elected President of the Council. The motion carried. It 'was moved by Barney and seconded by Chamberlin that the City Engineer be instructed to have a'stair-rail placed in the City Ball. The motion carried. .A petition for the paving of the alley back of Main Street in Bloch One East Laurel, and Block One Laurel Realty Subdivision was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the City Attorney and the City Clerk be instructed to dra,a the necessary resolutions for the creation of a Special Improve- ment District for that purpose. The motion carried. bond in the amount of $10,000.00 for Wilbur B. Wiggins, City Treasurer, executed by the National Surety Company, was present- ed and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Graves that the Bond be approved. The motion carried. petition by C. E. Rodgers asking- -permission to tap the sewer and install his own sewer was pies ented__ander.e.ad. It was moved by Chamberlin and seconded by Bray that the permit be granted, providsd.: a licensed plumber make the tap and the work done in a sat- isfactory manner and be approved by the sewer Commissioner. The motion carried. A request from Mrs. C. F. Anderson to place her property on a flat rate during the summer was presented and read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Bray that the motion be denied. The motion carried. after su-me discussion of dangerous wood walks on Wyoming, Fifth, and Sixth Avenues., the matter was referred to the Street and Alley Committee. The Chief of Police was instructed to notify persons caught dumping garbage on J. 2. Jackson's land.to refrain from so doing. The Mayor appointed the following standing committees: FTN.ZCE- Graves, Ghamberlin, and Hurless. LIGHT ?iAT.ER- HUT,lass, Vordahl, and Chamberlin. STREET 8c _? LLEY Vordahl, Hartley, and Barney. SEWED- Hartley, Porter, and Bray FACE & POLICE- Chamberlin, Graves, and Barney. Barney appeared before the Council in regard to a "Hobo Camp" near the Railroad Y and his Filing Station. The matter was referred to the Chief of Police. The Mayor received a call and reported back that it would be necessary for him to leave the Council. Thereupon, Graves, Pxes ATTEST; r. after some discussion of a suitable place for a Stock Pond, it was moved by Barney and seconded b? Porter that the Chief of Police be instructed to make arrangements with ,ir . Moore if suitable arrangements could be made. The motion carried.
