Minutes of the City Council of Laurel

The G ty-Goupcii of the City of Laurel met in regular
session in the Goune l Chamber in the City Hall and was palled
to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8:80 o'clock P. IA. November 1,
1932.
Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present;

The minutes of Oc t. 18th were read and approved.
The report of the Police judge was presei4ted and re ad.
It was moved by'0hamberlin and seconded.by Bxgy that. the repo rt
be approved as read. The motion carried.
The report of the Chief of police was presented and read.
It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Dull that the report be
approved as read. The moti on carried.
The report of the City Treasurer was presented and read

It was moved by Vardahl, and seconded by Hartley that the repa it Abe
approved as read. The Loti on parried.
The ann.aul report of the Water Commissioner was pre sented
and read. It was moved by Vordabl and seconded by Du-11 that the
report be approved as read. Toe motion carried.
The bills for the month of oetober were referred to the
Finance Committee and after due deliberation the Committee r eport-
ed back recommending the payment of the following bills;

It was moved by V ordahl and seconded by Hartley tha t the
report of the Committee be accepted and that warrants be issu ed in
the manner recommended by t he Committee. The motion carried. 1

After some discussion of gambling all night, fighting and a
window being 'broken in the Araeade Pool Hall, it was moved by Dull
and'seconded: by Hartley that W. R. Diefenderfer be instructed to
appear before the City Council at it's next meeting and show cause
why his license should not be revoked. The motion carried.
After -.further discussion of gambling end fighting in Poetl,
Halls, it was moved by Hartley and seconded by Dull that H. R.
Freebury, 11gr., 'of the Palace Pool Hall be instructed to appear
before the City Council at the next regular' meeting and show cause
why his license should not be revoked'. The motion carried.
Mayor Broughton reported that the Federal officers had not,
been doing much in Laurel and requested a resolution demanding that
they take action.. After some discussion,; it was moved by Vordahl
and seconded by Hartley that the Prohibition officers be notified
that the City Council would like more action taken.in Laurel. The
motion carried.
An application from Dominic Dreier Jr. for as plumber's
license was presented and read. It was roved by Chamberlin and sec
onded. by Hurles.s that his request be granted and that the City Treas-
urer be authorized to issue license. The motion carried.
The a.ter Committee reported that they had arranged for a
stove and had coal put in at the pump House.
The Finance Committee reported recommending that the
depository bonds for the Yellowstone Bank remain as they now are.
It: was, Moved. by Hartley and seconded by Vordahl that the report of
the Oommittee be adopted, The motion carried.
After some discussion in regard to purchasing bonds, it
was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the mayor and City
Attorney meet with the City Treasurer and the Finance Committee to
discuss the purchasing of outstanding bonds. The motion carried.
The Finance Committee reported recommending that we adopt
a plan for a `dairy license for the average number of cows milked
instead of the total head., ' and that the license be collected quart-
erly instead of annually. It was moved by vordahl and seconded by
Dull that the 'report of the Committee be adopted. The motion carried.
T,he Gity Treasurer-appeared before the City Council and
requested the assistance of some Gommittee on his license problems.
Thexeupon, the mayor appointed the Finance Committee to assist him
in arriving at decisions on the license problems.
After some- discussion of the County Aid, it was moved by
Hartley and seconded by Dull that the City accept the County Relief
labor. The motion carried.
The City Treasurer wasinstructed to make another drive on.
Dog licenses.
it was moved by Hurlese and, seconded by Vordahl that we do
