Laurel, Montana
i July I95, 1932.
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular
session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called
to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8:00 o'clock P. M, July 19,
1932.
Upon roll call, the frollowing Aldermen answered present:
Bray
Chamberlin
V ordahl
Dull
i
Hartley
i
The minutes of July 5th were read and approved.
Mrs, Koller appeared before the Council and requested
early action. on the buildings of Clark and Hilgert on Montana
Avenue.
Mrs. Kerchies, Mrs, Arnold, Mrs. Long, Mrs, Harper,
Mrs. Hilgert, Mrs, Moran, Mrs. Roysdon, Mr. Jens Long and Mr
and Mrs. Kurrock appeared before the Council protesting the
allowance of a funeral home in their neighborhood. They said
that rough boxes, hearse, etc, had been moved into the corner
house at the corner of Wyoming ,avenue and First Street, After j
some discussion, it was moved by Hartley and seconded by Dull
that the City Attorney be instructed to draft ordinance pro-
hibiting funeral homes being located in any residence district.
The motion carried.
Mr. Mold appeared before the City Council in, regard,
to drainage. After some discussion, the City Engineer was in-
structed to run a survey along the north boundary line of the
City limits to ascertain the cost of ditching,
A claim of .$10.51 for 1931 tax refund of Ha.geter . and
Reardon was presented with the report of the City Attorney,
It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Dull that the claim
be allowed. The motion carried.
A claim of $11.07 covering the same property for
the year 1930 was presented, It was moved by Dull and seconded.
by Hartley that the claim be rejected. The motion carried.
A Custodian's Receipt, executed by the Federal
Reserve Bank of Helena covering $15,000,00 of Treasury Bonds
held as security for deposits in the Midland National Bank.
of Billings was presented for quarterly approval, It was
moved by Hartley and seconded by Bray that the security be
approved. The motion carried. _
A custodian's Receipt, executed by the Federal
Reserve Bank of Helena, covering $5,000,00 of Treasury Bonds
held as security for deposits in the Midland National Bank
of Billings was presented for quarterly approval, It was
moved by Hartley and seconded by Brag that the security be
approved, The motion carried.
A Custodian's Receipt execcted by the-lst National
Bank of Minneapolis covering $20,000.00 of Yellowstone' County
Bonds held as security for deposits in the Yellowstone° Bank
of Laurel was presented for quarterly approval, It was moved
by Vordahl and seconded by Dull that the security be approved, l
The motion carried.
After some discussion about additional bonds to
cover deposits in the Yellowstone Bank, the City t'reasurer'
was instructed to get the present value of Yellowstone Qounty`
bonds now held as security.
A request for license to operate a garage by
Slaughter and Warwick Baas presented. It was moved by Vordahl
and seconded by Dull that the request be granted. The motion

A request to operate a hotel by Mrs. N. J. T3ntinger
in the Lenox Hotel building was presented and read„ It was

moved by Dull and seconded by Vordahl tha t the request be
granted. The motion carried.
A request for license to operate a miniature Golf
Course by D. R. Shively was presented and read. It was moved
by Hartley and seconded by Bray that the license be granted
the motion carried.
A request for license-to run pool hall by W. R,
Diefendorfer was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl
and seconded by Dull that request be granted.' The motion
carried. 1
A letter from the Fire Department in which they
recommended that the fire truck be stored at the Slaughter
and Marwick garage for the ensuing year, was presented and
read. It was moved by Dull and seconded by Bray that the
Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute a contract for
such storage. The motion carried.
The Clerk reported that Mr. Peterson wanted to buy
some old fire hose without couplings for irrigation purposes
and had offered 105 per foot for them. It was moved by Dull
and seconded by Bray that his request be granted, The motion

RESOLUTION NO, 407
Resolution No. 407, being a resolution levying and
assessing ,a special tax against certain designated property for
the removal of garbage, snow, weeds and refuse, was presented
and read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Dull that
said resolution be provisionally passed and adopted, Upon roll
call, all Aldermen present voted aye and said resolution was
declared provisionally passed,
RESOLUTION N0. 408
Resolution No. 408, being a resolution levying and
assessing all of the property embraced within Special Improve-
ment Lighting District No. 1 of the City of Laurel, Montana,
with three-fourths of the entire cost of maintenance and elee-
trio current for the year 1932, : was presented and read. It
was moved by Hartley and seconded by Dull that said resolution
be provisionally passed and adopted. Upon roll call, all
Aldermen present voted aye and said resolution was declared
provisionally passed.
RESOLUTION NO. 409
` Resolution No. 409, being a resolution levying and
assessing all of the property embraced within Special Improve-
ment Lighting District No, 2 of the City of Laurel, Montana,
with three-fourths of the entire cost of maintenance and elec
trio current for the year 1932, was presented and read, it
was moved by Hartley and seconded by Vordahl that said reso-
lution be provisionally passed and adopted. Upon roll call,
all Aldermen present voted aye and said resolution was`de-
clared provisionally passed,

RESOLUTION NO, 410
Resolution No. 410, being a resolution authorizing
the addition of the Improvements of Special. Improvement Lightr
i.ng District No. 3 to that of the District known as Special:
Improvement Lighting District Nol, and providing for the
payment of the operating costs of the added improvements and
the assessment, was presented and read. It was moved by
Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that said resolution be passed
and adopted. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye
and said resolution was declared passed and adopted.

A regu.estfor a permit to erect a frame filling
station at the corner of Main Street and Wyoming Avenue was
presentedand read, It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by
Bray that the permit be granted. The motion cpLrried.
A request by Sam Coulter for a permit to erect a
~ soft drink stand on Lots 1 and 2, Block 4. Laurel Realty
Subdivision was presented and read. it was moved by Dull
and seconded, by Vordahl that ' the pea-mit be granted. The

A request by-,,,the Billings Gas Gompany for a permit
to break concrete in the alley for their new office connection
was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded
by Hartley that the permit be granted. The motion carried.
The Clerk was instructed to notify Hilgert and Clark
to clean up their property on Montana Avenue.
The City Engineer was instructed to request the Dis-
trict Engineer of the State Highway Commission to clean out
drainage along the loner end of town..
The Clerk reported that all officers had filed
estimates for the budget of 1932.
It was moved by Dull and seconded by Bray that we
do now adjourn. until 7:00 otclock P. M. Friday July 22, 1932,
to consider the budget for the ensuing year. The motion
carried.
