The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8:00 o'clock F. M. Tuesday February 2, 1932. Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present: Bray Porter i Chamberlin Click Hur le s s Vordahl Hartley i Graves i The minutes of January 19th 'were read and approved. A request for license to operate a barber shop by Schessler and Quimby was presented and read. It was moved by Hurless and seconded by Ghamberlin that the request be granted and that 'the City Treasurer be authorized to issue license. The motion carried. A request from Geo. E. Templin to operate a candy shop was presented and read. It was moved by Hurless and seconded by Hartley that the request be granted and that the City Treasurer be authorized to issue license. The motion carried. Dr. Broughton received a call and Geo. Graves, President of the Council took the chair. The report of the City Health officer was presented and read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Vordahl that the re- port be approved. The motion carried: The report of the Chief of Police was presented and read. It was moved by Voxdahl and seconded by Hurless that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police Judge was presented and read. I-t was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Bray that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Treasurer 'was presented and read. It was moved by Chamberlin and seconded by Hu.rless that the report be approved.- The motion carried. Power Go. 1.10 City Water pep't. 2.25 Billings Gas Co. 9.3Z Q.happle's Inb. 28.99 It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Bray that the report of the pommittee be accepted and that warrants be issued in the manner rec- ommended by the committee. The motion carried. The Mayor returned and presided during the remainder of the meeting. Mr. Price outlined the work done toward filing exemption for the money on deposit at Kountze Brothers Bank and read a number of letters connected therewith and asked if it was the desire of the City Council for the Mayor and Gity Attorney to hire a,Rew York attorney. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Huxless that the Mayor and City Attorney be instructed to hire New York counsel at their discretion. Mr. 11or.ter was excused at this time. After, some discussion and protest to the motion, the Mayor instructed the clerk to call the rail. Upon roll call the following answered aye; Hurless, Hartley and,. Graves.. Those opposed; Bray, Chamberlin and Click. Thereupon the Mayor declared a tie and voted ":no" declaring the motion lost. After some discussion of cottonwood trees, and roots in the sewer, the.mayor appointed gordahl9 Hartley and .Click as a committee to investigate and report back to the Council.
