J The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayer:R•,Broughton at 8;00 o'clock P. M. Tuesday October 3, 1935. Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present: Porter Bray Chamberlin Law V or dahl Reardon Dull The minutes of September 19th were read and _approved. Ur. A. W. Armstrong made application for a permit to move a garage to the 0. M. Wold property on Sixth Avenue. It, ; was moved and seconded-that his request be granted. The motion carried. Mr. E. S. Wilbarger appeared before the City Council in regard to a request made by the City Council for the Continental Oil Company to remove a pump and same of the curbing at their station at the intersection of Rain Street and First Avenue. The Street and Alley committee recommended that the pump and enough of the curb be reeved to permit a straightening out of the street at the interne°etion. It was moved by Dull and seconded by Va-rdahl that the report of the Committee be adopted. The motion carried. Mr. Hageman, Vioe President of the Independent Refining Company, appeared before he City Council in regard to the redue"tion of the charge' on the low pressure water `explaining that .negotiations had been under way with the hater Committee daring the month. After a compromise the charge of $200.04 plus 11,4 per kilowatt hour actual- ly used was presented. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Dull that this be accepted and the City Attorney be instructed to draw .a, contract.A The motion carried. The report of the City Treasurer far the month of September was presented and read. it was moved by Vo-rdahl and seconded by Reardon that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Cleric for the months: of July and August was presented and read. it was moved by Dull and seconded by Reardon that the reports be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Health Officer was presented and read'. It was moved by 0hamberlin. and seconded by Dull that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of Police was presented and read. It was moved by Dull and seconded by Law that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police judge was presented and. read. It was moved by Chamberlin and seconded.' by Dull that the report be ap- proved. The motion carried. The motion carried. A communication from the Ldland National Bank in which they stated that effective August 1d t: t the inteT%zt -e-in :deposits would be reduced to one-tenth of one pereent.wa preserGed:?and read. It was moved by Vgrdahl and `seconded' by 'Chamb,erlin that the City Treasurer be instructed ter collect at the same rate from the Yet lowstone Bank. The motion carried. A communication from. W. S Garland and iVm. Fly in which they requested a twenty-five percent increase in pay was presented and read. It was moved by Law, and seconded by Yordahl that the re- quezt, ?- be referred to the Police Committee. The motion carried. After aom, dlaeussion of telephone bills paid by the Vh of of Poll-ioe . he .was.?inatsueted to file bills at the ;close of each month for those that were City business and also to have an extension put on to 26. An application for a permit by James Speare' to build an addition to. his house was presented and read. Itwas moved by Vordab:l and seconded by Reardon that the permit be granted. Porter that the per it be denied and-: the City Clerk instxubted to inform the applicant that the property referred to was within the fire district. The motion' carried. it was marred by Vord&l and seconded by porter that the 0. . Wold Farm Nash. Go. be asked; for a reply in regard to the City, s request to have bog ears rem6-ved from the fire district. The motion carried. The mayor stated that nominati©nn for an alderman to fill the unexpired term' of John Bartley from the fourth ward would-MR-w;,be in order. Thereupon, Har i7 bull nominated Lucius Conrad. °r-011 call, Aldermen Chamberlin, .Law, Vordahl and Dull Voted aye and Porter Bray and Reardon voted nay., Thereupon the may declared Lucius Conrad elected to fill the' unexpired term of John Hartley.
