The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber in the City gall and was called to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8;00 oxclock P. M. Tuesday September 5, 1933. - 1 1 Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present; Bray it Chamberlin I 1 Law Vo idahl Reardon Dull The minutes of August 15th were read and approved. Ir. Joe Price appeared before the City Council in re- gard to getting license to operate a pool 'hall. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Dull that his request be granted and the City Treasurer authorized to issue license. The motion carried. .__J The report of the Police Judge was presented and read. It was moved by Dull and seconded by Vordahl that the report be approved. The motion carried.. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of August was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by 'Reardon that the report be approved.. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of Police was presented and read. It was moved by Dull and seconded by Reardon that the report be ap- proved. The motion carried. The report o? the Health officer was presented and read. It was moved by Dull and seconded by- Chamberlin that the report be approved. The motion carried. An application for a permit to erect a sign over the side- walk by Hageter & Reardon was presented and read. It was moved by Dull and seconded by Vordahl that the permit be granted. The motion.. carried. An application for license to run a soft drink, parlor by J. D. Norris was presented and read. After some discuss-ion, it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Dull that the matter be referred: to a committee. The motion carried. Thereupon the Mayor appointed Dull, Hartley and Bray as a committee to report at the next meeting of the City Council. An application for license to operate a bakery by V. A., toga was presented and read. It was moved by Dull and seconded by Reardon that the request be granted and the City Treasurer authorized to issue license. The motion carried. A letter from D. U. Driscoll, Division Superintendent for ? the id. P. Railway Co., in ,which he blamed the culvert under the pave- went for retarding the water at Alder .venue, was presented and read. ? After some discussion, the Clerk was instructed to 'Write s'• x. Driscoll and request a check on a profile as it is shown in their office anu the actual profile as it now exists. Resolution No., 418; being a resolution levying and assessing a special tax against certain designated property for the removal of garbage snow,, weeds and refuse, was presented f final passage. The Clerk produced` proof of publication in the Laurel Outlook and informed the City Council that no protests had been received. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Dull that final passage and approval of said resolution be made. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye. Thereupon the Mayor declared said Resolution No. 418 -finally passed and !adopted. I I I it Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Laurel, ontena, September 5, 1933, Cont. RES€ LUTICE NO. 419. Resolution o.:4119, being a resolution levying and assessing all of the property embraced within Special Improvement lighting District No. 1 of the City of Laurel, ontana, with three-fourths of the entire cost of maintenance and electric current for the year 1933, was presented for final passage. The Clerk produced proof of publication in the Laurel outlook and in- formed the City Council that no protests had been received. It was moved' by Chamberlin and seepnded by Bray that final passage and approval of said resolution be made. Upon roll call, all Aldermen presented voted aye. Thereupon the Mayor declared said Resolution No. 419 finally passed and adopted. RESOLUTION NO. 4200 Resolution No'. 420, being a resolution. levying and assessing all of the property embraced within Special Improvement Bighting District No. 2 of the City of Laurel, Montana, with three-fourths of the entire cost of maintenarn e and electric current for the year 1933, was presented for final passage. The. Clerk produced proof of -publication in the. Laurel Outlook and in- formed the City Council that no protests had been received. It was moved by pull and secatded by Chamberlin that final passage and approval of said resolution be made.. "Upon roll call, all aldermen present voted aye. Thereupon the Mayor declared said Resolution No. 420 finally passed and adopted. RESOLUTION NO. , 421. Resolution No.. 421 being' a resolution levying fazes for general and specific purposes for the City, of Laurel, montane for the fiscal year beginnn,ng July let, 1933, was presented and read. it was moved by Chamberlin and seconded by paw that said resolution be pawed and adopted, Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye and said resolution was declared passed an& adopted. The bills for the month of August were referred to the Finance Committee and after due de'lib'eration the committee reported back recommending the payment of the following bills: I R. The motion carried. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Dull that the City Treasurer be authorised to pay interest coupons as provided i in judgment dated August 11th, 1933, on 1916 Funding Bend' s without waiting for coupons to be presented. The motion carried: An application for a building permit for sddewal.k, `curb (' and fence by Y. W. Smith was presented and read. It was moved by, 'Vordahl and seconded by Dull that the permit be granted. The motion carried. An application for permit for the construction of store fronts on lots 6, 7 & 8, Bloat 1, Laurel realty Subdivision by the Laurel Security Co. was presented and- read. It was. moved by Bray and seconded by Vordahl that the permit be granted. The motion carried. After some discussion of the -runway and gutter at the City Hall, it was moved by Vordaial and seconded by Dull that the City Engineer proceed with the construction of a new runway. After some discussion of the `intersection of First Ave South and Ilai.n Street, it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Dull that the Clerk write the Continental oil Co. and request- a meeting TYith their field men and the Street Alley Committee and the City Engineex. The City Attorney and City Engineer were instructed ta' prepare _e'd mate for a'reservoir and pipe line t-o it. The :Police Committee was requested to purchase a stove for the city jail.
