The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular
session in the Couneil Chamber in the City Hall and. was called
to order by Mayor R. Broughton: at 8;00 O'clock P. IT. Tuesday
July 18, 1933.
Upon roll call the following Aldermen answered present:
Bray
Porter
Chamberlin
Law
Reardon
Vordahl
Bull
Hart?.e y I
r% The minutes of duly 5th were read and approved.
The report of the City Treasurer for the month of dune
was presented and read. It .was moved by Dgll, and seconded by
Lai v'. The motion carried.
The report of the City Treasurer for the year ending
June 30th, 1933, was presented and read. It was moved by Vgrdahl
and seconded by Bray that the report be approved. The motion
carried.
The report of the City Clerk for the month of kay an:c3
June was presented and read. It was moved by vordahl and seconded
by pull that the repoxts be approved. The motion carried.-
The Street and Alley Committee reported` that they had
approved a sign for C. H. Kass on Main Street providing a contract
be signed.
An application for a license to run a printing office
and newspaper by B. G. Farrell was presented and read. It was moved
by Chamberlin and seoonded.by Bray that the application be approved
and that the City Treasurer be authorized to issue license. The
motion carried.

An application to run a Filling Station and Lumber Yard
by George Harlan was presented and read. It was moved by Dull and
seconded by Hartley that the application be approved and that the
City Treasurer be authorized to-issue license. The motion Qarr:ied.'
An application to run a Blacksmith Shop by $;. J.. Rybi.n.
was presented and read. It was moved by Law_ and seconded by Hart ley
that the application be approved and that the City Treasurer be
authorized to issue license The motion carried.
A contract iron the, storage of the fire truck for the ;per
iod Jura 15, 1933 to J 15, 1934, with the. Yellowstone Garage was
presen._ d and read. It as moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law
that the contract be approved. The motion carried.
Mr. Wm. 5-idwell appeared before the City Council and stated
that he had the agency for fire extinguishers. It was moved b- pull
and seconded by Law that the matter be referred to the Committee on
Fire & Police. The motion carried.
A cantran-t fbr the siren with the Mountain Stages Tel. & Tel.
Co. was -referred4tfl??the_ City Attorney.
An easement for the ditch across the Hor-them. Pacific right
ofway was preasented and read and ordered filed.
The Mayor and Gity Attorney reported that the Fire Department"
had requested permission to put an a carnival and that `the license be
waived in their favor. It was moved by Bray and seconded by Vordahl'
that their request be d.enip4.. Upon roll call the motion lost.'

It,was moved by Hartley and Law that the Council
rescind the action taken. previously to bar carnivals from the
City. The motion carried.
The City Attorney reported that some agitation had been
in-progress fox a number of gears to check building on lots not
served with water and seiner. After some discussion, it was moved
by Dull and seconded by Ghabberlin that the City purchase the vac-
ant lots west of Alder Avenue and north of Main Street that are now
owned by the County if arrangements csod be `made. Stith the County
Commissioners, Upon roll call the motion carried.
A'._',,-letter to. the State Highway Commission relative to word
within the City was read. and ordered filed.
The City Engineer reported that the State Highway Commis
sign had requested the City to appeal. to the Northern Pacific Railway
Company for the straightening of the roadway across the. tracks on
First Avenue South. It was moved by Porter and seconded by.Dull` that
the matter be referred to the Street & Alley Committee. The motion
carried.
The budgets for the different departments of the City for the
ensuing year were presented and read. It was moved by VQrdahl and
seconded by Porter that the budgets be filed. The motion carried.
It was moved by Dull and seconded by Chamberlin that we do
now adjourn. The motion carried.
