Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Laurel, Montana,
duly 5, 1933.
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular
session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to
order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8:00 O'clock 1D., M. Wednesday July
5, 1933.
Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present:
Porter
Bray
Chamberlin
Law
Tor dah l
Reardon
Hartley
Dull
The minutes of June 20th and 23rd were read and approved.
Iffx. aa.mons, fire extinguisher salesman, appeared before
the City Council. It was moved by Voxdahl and seconded by 'Dull
that the matter be referred to the Committee on Fire and Police.
.
The motion carried.
Mr. Bert McCann appeared-before the City Qouncil in're-
gard to painting water tang. A letter was also read from-him ` and
P. M. Carey regarding it. After some discussion, it was moved by
Law and seeibnded by Dull that the matter be referred to the water
committee. The motion carried.
The report of the Chief of Police for the month of June
was presented and read. it was moved by Dull and seconded by
Chamberlin that the report" be approved. The motion carried.
The report of the, Police Judge for the -month of ;June was
presented and read. It was moved by dhamber'lin and seconded by
Reardon that the report be approved.. The motion carried.
The report of the Health Officer for the month bf June
was presented and read. It was moved by Voidahl and seconded by
Dull that the report be approved. The motion carried.
The Mayor reported that he had appointed W. 8. Garland
as special police. It was 'moved by Vordahl and seconded by Dull
that the appointment be approved. The motion car-Tied.
An application b H. 0. Yoost to operate a restaurant
was presented and read. I? was' %oved by Bray and seconded by Dull
that the application be approved. Themotion carried.
A letter from the First Rational Bank and Trust Company
of nneapoli-s innas ta, in which they offered to sell Bone no 30 in p'ecial lmpravement District No. 35 for 85.59 and Bond Rio.

was presented and read Tt waz moved by Vordahl and seconded' by
Dull that the City Treasurer be authorized to purchase the above
bonds at the price indicated. The motion carried:
application by 0._ H. Ease, to :,erect a s1gn,5 x 8 feet'
across from his cafe, was presented and read. It was:; moved by Brag
and seconded. by Reardon that the matter be 'referred to the Street
and Alley G-ammttee. The motion carried.

Doctor Bxoughton received a call and Zr. Vordahl,
presided'04n his absence.
It was moved by Porter and seconded by Dull th at Mr.
.WQld be requested to make a statement when he would 'remo ve bog
cars from the right-of-way near his implement shed, The motion
carried.
The bills for the month of June were referred to the
Finance Committee and after due deliberation, the Commit tee
reported back recommending the payment of the following bills:

It was moved by Ghamberlin and seconded by Dull that the report of
the Committee be accepted and that warrants be issued in the manner
reeommedned by the Committe e. The motion carried., i
Doctor Broughton returned and presided during the remainder
of the meeting,
r. Hartley was e xcused, .
The Gommittee that had been appointed tQ inves tigate the
license charge for different occupations submitted a wri tten report.
It was moved by 17ordahl and seconded by Dull that the rep ort be ac-
cepted and placed on file and the committee.diecharged. The motion
carried.
F After some discus sion of fire hazards on Main Street, it
was moved by Vordakl and se conded by Bull that the build ing back of
S.eheid.eckert s store and the one adjoining his store on t he west
be condemned, - The motion c arried. ?`
The Committee on File, and Police reported that Slaughter
and Creasey had purchased the garage on Main Street that had been
operated by-the Goan Motor Company and had moved the fire track
to that location and recommended that the City Council authorize
a new contract for the storage of the truck as the existing con-
tract expired duly 15th. It was moved by Dull and seconded by
vordahl that the arrangement be approved. The motion carried.
It was moved by Pull and seconded by yordahl that the
Police Committee be given additional time to report on the granting
of license to Billie .Carlisle, The motion carried,
The Street and A' ley Committee reported that they had
investigated the ditch across the Thornton tract of land in the
southeast part of the City and recommended that nothing ber done
until fall.
It was moved by 'Pall and seconded by Vordahl that we do
now adjourn. The motion carried.
