The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber and was called to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8:00 of clock P. 11. Tuesday May 2, 1933. The report of the Chief of Police was presented and reaQ. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Vordahl that the rep ort be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police judge was presented and r eed. It was moved by 0hamberl in and `secon ded by Porter that the. r eport be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Health Officer was presented and read., It was. moved by Vordahl and seconded by yaw that the report be ap-; proved. The motion carr ied. The bills fox the month of April were referred to the Finance Committee and af ter due deliberation, the committee report- ed back recommending the payment of the following bills: R. It was moved by Chs?erlin and secan4ed by ffart ey that the bond be approved. The motion carried. A bond is the amount of $10 000.00,- exeeuted by the National Surety Go?apany, for Wilbur B. Wiggins, City Treasurer , was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law that the bond be approved. The motion carried. A. request for a permit to move a chicken house from 616 2nd. Avenue to 415 2nd Avenue by W. j;. Chamberlin was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded 'by Porter that the re- quest be granted and the Qity Glert authorized to 'issu'e permit The motion carried. A request for a building permit by B. g. Shenow, ryas pre- sented and read. It was moved by Porter and seconded by Hartley that the request be granted and the City 'Glert authorized to issue build- ing permit. The motion carried. i 9 request for a building permit by George Harlan was pre- sented and read. It was moved by Chamberlin and seconded by Reardon that the request be granted and the City Clerk authorized -to issue building permit. The motion carried. A request for a building permit by B.,_ G. It was moved by Porter and seconded by Reakon_ that the request be granted and the City Clerk: au.thorited to issue permit. The motion carried`. After some discussion of the drain ;ditch, it was decided to wire Mr.- Engineer for the 14. P. Railway Company, and ask permission to use the drag line for a day. It was moved by Law and seconded by Vor'dahl. that the appointment -be apps owed. The motion carried. a The Mayor appointed B. L. Price City Attorney. It was moved by Vordah1 and seconded by Hartley that the appointment be ap proved. The motion carried. 5 The Mayer appointed T. A. Rigney as G.ity Clerk, City Emgineer and Water Commissioner. The Mayor appointed Dr. E. C. Hall Health Officer. It was moved by Chamberlin and seconded by Vordahl that the appoint- ment be approved. The motion carried. ' The Mayor appointed E. B. Packard Fire Chief. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the appointment be approved. The motion carried. It was moved by Porter.; and seconded by Hartley that the same arrangement for J. S. Brohaugh for pumping be continued. The motion carried. It was moved by Law and seconded by Chamberlin that Wilbur B. Wiggins-be employed as stenographer. The motion carried. The Mayor appointed qtrs. C. L. Morris, Mrs. 0. Ill. Wold and Mrs. Joseph Gehrett as members of the Library Board. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Porter that the appointments be approved. The motion carried. After some discussion, it was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon that Vim. Fly be retained as night watchman, The mo- tion carried. Mayor Broughton received a call but returned before any further business was transacted. After some discussion of wages, it was moved by Law and seconded by Chamberlin that the Chief of Police be paid $35.00 less 10%. Upon roll call Bray, Chamberlin, and yaw voted "yes" and Porter, Vordahl, Reardon and Hart3a y voted "no". The motion was lost. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley .that the salary of Chief of Police be fixed at $25,00 per month. Upon roll call Porter, Vordahl, Reardon and Hartley voted "yes" and Brag, Chamberlin and Law voted "no". The motion carried. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the City Clerk's salary be fixed at -$500400 per annum, City Engineer's at $500.00 and Water Commissioner's at $1400.00 per annum. The motion carried. it was moved by Porter and seconded by Vordahl that. the Stenographew's salary be'fixed at $10.00,per month and alert in water office at -.40.00 per month. The motion carried. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the Right 1?olicemanis,salary be fixed at $100.00 per month. The motion carried. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Bray that the .Firemen's pay per call be fixed at y2.70 per call. The motion carried. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Porter that the pumping be fixed at $216,00 per month. The motion carried. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Bray that the schedules above enumerated be effective as of May let, 1933. The motion carried. The Chief of Police was instructed to publish notice rel- ative to chickens running at large. The City Clerk was instructed to notify J. L. Hodges to clean up the property vacated on Date Avenue.
