The Ulty Counc il of the City of Laurel met in regular, session in the Council C hambers in the City gall and was called' to order by Nels Vordahl , President of the Council at 8;00 o'clock P. M. September 4, 1934. Upon roll call the following Aldermen answered present; Bray Sidwell Lair Gum Reardon Conrad Hartley The minutes of August 7th, 21st and 24th were read and approved. Rev. Harold Bo tteran appeared before the Ci-ty a unci in regard to a request f or a permit he had on file. Br. Broughton appeared and presided during the remainder rof the meeting. T The report of the city Treasurer for the month of August- was pradentad?a d.,ra d. , It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of police for the month. of- august- was presented and read. It was moved by Vorda,hl and seconded by Conrad that the report b e approved. The motion carried.' The Mayor stat ed that he had made temporary appointments of Joe Nicholas and Fred Quiet for police services. It was moved and seconded that the appointments ,be approved. The motion carried. '775p Montana Power Co. 123.00 It was moved by Vorda.hl and seconded by Hartley that the report of the Committee be adopted and that warrants be issued in the, manner recommended by the committee. The motion carried. A' communication from the Secretary of the Fire Department, in which they recommended that Larry West and Bert Warwickbe dropped from membership and recommended that Edward Kucera and Chestex Herbert be appointed, was presented and read. ' It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Conrad that Barry West and Bert wexwi-ok be dropped from the rolls of the Fire Department. The motion carried. Thereupon the Mayor appointed Edward gucera and Chester Herbert as membexs of the .Rime Depaxtment. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Gum that the appointments be approved. The motion carried. An application for license by Violet Montgomery to sell school supplies, candy and notions was presented and read. It was maned by Reardon and secnn.ded by Sidwell that her request be granted and that the City Treasurer be authorized to issue license. The motion carried. application by J. W. Irish for license to do body ` ork and painting on cars and trucks was presented and read. It was moved by Reardon and seconded by Law that the request be granted and that the City Treasurer be authorized to issue license. The motion carried. After some discussion of a water reservoir it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Hartley that the dater Committee and City Engineer make their recommendation at the next meeting of the City Council. The motion carried. RESOLUTION 140. 435. Resolution No. 435, being a resolution levying and assess- ing a Special Tax for tapping into water mains of the City of Laurel, Montana, was presented for final passage. The Clerk produced proof of publication in the Laurel CatlootK: and informed the City Council that no protests had been received. It was moved by Vordahl and ` seconded by Conrad that final passage and approval of said resolution be made. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye. Thereupon the Mayor declared said Resolution lap. 435 finally passed and adopted. RESOLUTION NO. 436. Resolution No. 436, being a--resolut ion levZ7 ng and assess.- in.g a special tag against certain designated property for the removal of garbage, snow, weeds and refuse, was presented for final approval. The Clerk produced prdaf of publication in the Laurel Outlook and in- formed the City Council that no protests had been received. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Law that final passage and approval of said resolution be made. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye. Thereupon the Mayor declared said Resolution No. 436 finally passed and adopted. ©LUTOH NO. 437. Resolution No. 43` a resolution levying and assess ing all of the property embraced within Special Improvement Lighting District No. 1 of the City of Laurel, Montana, with three-fourths' of the entire cost of maintenance and electric current for the year 1934, was presented for final passage. The Clerk produced proof of pabli cation in the Laurel Outlook and informed the City Council that no protests had been received. It was moved by Reardon and seconded by Gum that final passage and approval of said resolution be made. Upon roll call:, all Aldermen present voted aye. Thereupon the Mayor de__ clared said Resolution No. 437 finally passed and adopted. RESOLUTION NO. 438. Resolution No. 4381 being a resolution levying and assess- ing all of the property embraced within Special Improvement Lighting District ED. 2 of the City of Laurel, Montana, with three-fourths of the entire cost of maintenance and electric current for the year 1,934, ------------ Minutes of'the City Council of Laurel Laurel, Montana, September 4, 1934, Conti, was presented for final passage. The Clert produced proof of ptbli- cation in the Laurel Outlook and informed the City Council that no protests had been received. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Bray that final; passage and approval of said resolution be made. Upon roll call, all':Aldermen present voted aye. Thereupon the Mayor declared said Resolution go. 438 finally passed and adopted. After some discussion regarding the hours and shifts worked by policemen it was `moved by Hartley and seconded by Vordahl that the ,yor and hief of Police set hours and time. The motion carried. After, some discussion regarding a bill of Bert Sherrow's it was moved byordahl and seconded by Conrad that the bill be denied. The: matt on carried, _ It' was moved by Law and seconded by Conrad that the Sewer: Commissioner be instructed to continue work on the Shird Avenue sewer until it was: reasonably clean.
