Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Laurel, Montana,
August 21, 1934.
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular
session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall and was called
to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8-.00 o'clock 1,. AUgust, 211
134.
'Upon roll call, the fallowing Aldermen answered present;

. Holmes, Mr. Wilkins and M.T. Boyles appeared p:otest-
ing the building of a transient camp. After some discussion, it
was moved by Bray and seconded by Vordahl that the Committee be
notified to take moves to get the transients off the streets
immediately. The motion carried."
The Mayor stated that .. been had requested that the
City pay rent for quarters. After some discussion, it was moved
by Cum and seconded by Bray that the request be denied. Upon roll
call the motion tied and the Mayor voted no and the motion was
declared lost.
Ag application for license to operate a garage by Harry
I. Otto was presented and read. It was moved by Reardon and seconded
by Conrad that the request be granted and the City Treasurer author-
ized to issue license. The motion carried.
The annual report of the City Treasurer was presented and
read. It was moved by Fordahl and seconded by Conrad that the report
be approved. The motion curried.
A Continuation Certificate of Bond Na. 172029, issued by
the Maryland Casualty Company of Baltimore, in the amount of $5,000.
for T. A. Rigney, City Clerk, Water Commissioner and City Engineer,
was presented and xaad. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by
Reardon that the bond be approved. The motion carried.
ORDINANCE No. 328.
f Ordinance o. being an oxT 'r- anance relating to licensing
certain'_aceupatio,ns, was presented and read.. It was moved by Reardon
and seconded by Vordahl that the ordinance be passed and adopted.
Upson roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye and said ordinance No.
328 was declared passed and adopted.

RESOLUTION RO. 435.
Resolution No. 435, being a resolution levying and assess-
ing a special tag against property described for tapping into water
mains of the City of Laurel, was presented and read. It was moved by
Vox-da.hr and seconded by Hartley that said resolution be provisionally
passed' and adopted. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye
and said resolution was declared provisionally passed.
REZ01UTION NO. 436.
Resolution No. :06, ; being` a resolution levying and assess-
ing a special tag against certain designated property for the removal
of garbage, snow, weeds and refuse, was presented and read. It was
moved by Hartley and seconded by Conrad that said resolution be pro-
visionally passed and adopted. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present
voted aye and said resolution was declared provisionally passed.
RESOLUTION NO. 437.
Resolution No. 4371 being a resolution levying and assess-
ing all of the property embraced within Special Improvement lighting
District No. 1 of the City of Laurel Montana, with . three-
fourths of
the. entire cost of maintenance and electric current for the year
1934, was presented and read. It was moved by yordahl and seconded

by Law that said resolution be provisionally passed and adopted.
upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye and said resolution
was declared provisionally passed.
RESOLUTION NO. 4.38.
Resolution No. 4 e ng 'a reed ution levying and assess-
ing all of the property embraced within Special Improvement Lighting
District Na. 2 of the City of Laurel, Montana, with three-fourths of
the entixe cost of maintenance and electric current, for the year
3934, as presented and read. It was moved by Qordahl and seconded
by Brag that said resolution be provisionally passed and adopted.
Upon `roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye and said resolution was
declared provisionally passed.
RESOLUTION NO. 439.
Resolution No. 4 e ng a reso ution levying taxes for
general and specific purposes for the City of Laurel, Fontana, for
the fiscal year beginning July 1st, 1934, was presented and read. It
was moved by Law and seconded by Bidwell that said resolution be
passed and adopted. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye
and said resolution was declared passed and adopted.
An application to remodel the American Bank Building by
H. E. Marshall was presented and read. It was moved by Bray and sec-
onded by Bidwell that the permit be granted. The motion carried.
An application by 0. M. Wold Go. for a permit to install two
n Neon signswas presented and read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded'
by Reardon that the permit be granted. The motion carried.
After some discussion of the police problem, it was moved
by Hartley and seconded by Conrad that an extra policeman be put on.
The motion carried.
The City Engineer reported that he had located a used rotary
scraper at the Midland Implement Company for $91.50. It was moved by
Vordahl and seconded by Gum that it be purchased and the expense be
divided equally between the water and street department. The motion
carried.
It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the
claim o Sherxow B. for work on the sewer be referred to the Sewer
Committee. The motion carried.
The water Commissioner was instructed to make application
to the Public Sexviee Commission for a discontinuance of the wood
water mains in Fourth Ward.
It was moved and seconded. that we do now adjourn.. The
motion carried.
