The City C ouncil of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Counc il Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor R. Br oughton at 8:00' o' clock P. M.` Tuesday may , 1934. Upon roll call the following Aldermen answered present: Bray Bidwell Law Gum vordahi Reardon Hartley The minute s of April 9th and 17th were read an d approved. The 'Mayor stated that nominations would now be in order for President of the C7ounc3il. Thereupon, Mr. Law nominated gels Vordahl. It was mov ed by Hartley and seconded by Reardo n that _nom- inations be closed and Nels Vordahl be declared elected President of the Councsil The motion carried. Dr. Broughton received a call and Mr. Vordahl, President of the Council, pres ided during his absence. Mr. Conrad reported on his conversation with t he School Board; and, after some discussion, it was moved by Conrad and second- ad by Hartley that, t he School Board be billed for the ac tual amount _ of gasoline used on their athletic park. The motion car ried. The bills for the month of April were referred to the Fin- ance Committee and after due' deliberation the committee reported I back recommending the payment of the following bills: R. Power Co. 123.00 It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Lave that the report of 'I the Committee be adopted and that warrants' '_e issued in the man- ner recommended by the Committee The motion carried. Dr. Broughton returned and presided during the remain- der of the meeting, A report of the Fire Committee relative to fire hazards was presented and read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Bidwell that the rep&A of'`the Committee be accepted and put is force. The motion carried. It was moved by Vordahi an seconded by Gu;n that definite action be taken on the recommendations of the Committee. The motion carried. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Lair- that the, bog ear at the 0. M. Wold Farm Implement Company shed be required moved. The motion carried. Mr. -Slaughter appeared before the City Council in regard to the price of shifting the fire apparatus- onto the new truer. After some discussion, it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Law that his price of $40.00 be approved. The motion carried. Air. Packard reported that they had an offer of $7.00"fo the cab taken off of the fire truck. It was moved by Vordahhl and seconded by Hartley that the offer be accepted. The motion carried. After sp a discussion of fire insurance, it was-moved by Hartley and seconded by Vordahl that the policies of C. J. Miller be referred to the committee-on Fire & Police. The motion carried. The Mayor named the following standing committees; FINANCE-- Reardon, Vordahl, Hartley LIGHT & WATER=-Vordahl, Conrad, Bidwell STREET & ALLEY--Vordahl, Reardon, Law SEWER--Law, Bray, Gum FIRE & POLICE--Bray, Conrad, Hartley PARK--Conrad, Reardon, Hartley 2URCHA8ING--Bray, Gum, Bidwell i The report of the Health Officer for the month of April was presented and_ _read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by Conrad that the report be approved= The motion carried, The report of the Chief of.Police for the month, of April was presented and read. The report of the Police judge for the month of April was presented and read. it was moved by Law and seconded by Conrad that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of April was presented and read. it was moved by law and seconded by Hartley that the report be approved. The motion carried. ordinance No. 327. ordinance '1to 527, being an ordinancerelating to licensing certain. occupations was presented for final passage. After same, d`is- cussion, it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Gum that ordinance No. 327 be finally passed.- Upon roll call all Aldermen present; voted aye and said ordinance was declared finally passed and adopted. Resolution No. 431. Resolution No..431, being a resolution relating to the levying and assessing a tag upon all property in North Side Water Maim 1934 of the City of Laurel, Montana, to defray the 'cost of mak- ing improvements in said d.iatxiet, was presented and read. It was. moved by Reardon and aecanded by Hartley that said resolution be passed and adopted. Upon roil call, all Aldermen presented voted aye and said resolution was dev3are-dl passed and adopted. The motion ', carried. Resolution No. 432. Resolution No. 432, being .a resolution relating to the levying andassessing a tag upon all property in First Street Water Mains 1934 of the City of Laurel, Montana, to defray the cost of making improvements in said district,, was presented and read. it was moved by Hartley and Seconded by Reardon that said resolution be passed and adopted. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye and said resolution was declared passed and adopted. The motion carried. i A communication from the Seattle Chamber of Commerce was referred to Hartley and. Reardon. A bid of 8¢ for 400 feet of six inch pipe by Mr. Ste nbink of Columbus was presented and: read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Reardon that his bid or any other bid of 8? be- accepted. t The motion carried. A bid of 5? for 560 feet of six inch pipe by Robl t. S. Reid of Billings was presented and, read. it was moved by law and seconded by Sidwell that the bid be rejected. the motion carried. An application by W. E. Chamberlin for caretaker of the park was presented and read. it was moved by Cum and seconded by Vordahl that the matter be referred to the Park Committee. The motion ,_. carried. After some discussion of the Railraod Park the City Attorney was instructed to write Xr. Driscoll, Division Superintendent, in regard to it. The motion carried. The Street Qcmmissoner was instructed to post "Do trespass- ing" signs on lots we-at of Ethel Whitam's place After some discussion of Neon signs placed on Main Streeet, it was moved by Hartley and seconded by Vordahl that Mr. O .-M. Harp and Toad Jacobs be sighted into police court. Upon roll call, Brag, Law, Gum and Reardon voted no and Bidwell, Vordahl, Conrad and Hartley voted aye. There being a tie the Mayor voted aye.
