The City Council of the City, of Laurel met in regular
session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall and was called to
order by Nets Vordahl, President of the Council, at 8:'00 oTclock P. M.
Tuesday March 20,1934.
Upon roll call the following Aldermen answered present
Porter,
Bray
Chamberlin
Law
Reardon
Dull
Conrad
The minutes cf March 6th were read and approved.
A bill for the. Northern. Pacific:Railway Company in the
_.._ amount of $34.64 was referred to; the Finance Committee', and after due
deliberation the Committee reported back recommending the payment of
.the bill. It was moved. by Conrad and seconded by, Porter that the
' report of the Committee be adopted and that a warrant be issued in 'a
manner recommendedeby the committee . The motion carried.
An Application. by H. M. Pewitt for a license to operate
.two card tables and to sell soft drinks was presented and read. It
was moved by Law and seconded by Dull that his request` be gr-ant:ed .and
that the City Treasurer be authorized to issue, a license. The moti'.on
carried.
After some discussion of water mains it was moved by
-P,orter and seconded by Dull that mains be laid on 'Second Avenue tea.
Fifth Street . The motion. carried; It was moored by Dull and second:'ed
by Reardon' that mains be laid on 'Third. Avenue" to Fifth: Street . The';,.
motion carried; It was moved by; bull and 'seconded by Reardon that
mains be laid on Fifth Street between First Avenue and Montana 'Avenut.
The motion carried; It was moved by Dull and seconded by Law t2at
mains be laid on Fourth Street and First Avenue to Montana Avenue..
The motion carried
It was moved by Dull and seconded by Reardon that the f
lowing :named places be designated as Polling places for the ele-etioh to
be held April 2nd, 1934 First Ward, Carrie E. Erb residence. Second
r hard, City Hall . Third 1card, New Yellowstone Hotel. fourth hard ,
Perry an Tubman Store. The 'motion carried.
It was moved by Dull and seconded by Reardon that the
following named persons be named 'judges and clerks; of the election:
First ?hard , Mrs . Carrie 'E. Erb, Ida L. Miner, May Crutcher, x.. 0.
Gunter, ' B. F. Lamb; Second Ward, Minnie Miller, 0'. 0. Larson, Lucy
L. Chamberlin, C. Calvert., S. S. Bliss: Third bard, Olive M. C-ook,
Cora Di. Richards; Mrs. George Coy', Niid7Mrt�a.i-,Id.a:�S,onne; Fourth ?Nard,
Cora D. Olmstead, Charlotte. L. Olafson., Joe M. Price and E. C. Speare,
Antonia Scherger. The 'motion carried.
After 'some discussion of license matters the City Attor-
ney requested further. instructionregarding license fees . It was
moved by Dull and seconded by Reardon that the iicense-*gr moving
picture show be -'changed from ' 10.00 to $3.50 a quarter. The motion car-
ried.
Dr. R.; Broughton appeared and presided duffing the:. re
mainder of the meeting.
After further discussion of license matters it was moved
by dull that all contractors employing more than one person pay a li
cense of. $3.50 per quarter: The motion carried. . After further dis-
oussion of license matters` it was moved b Porter anal seconded by
that the Beauty Parlor 13 cease be set at 4 3.50, per quarter The motion
carried 'theh it� was movedi by vordahl and seconded by Lair 'that the
committee appointed to study license matters be discharged. The motion

After some discussion of the Planning Conference March
26th and 27th it was moved by Dull and seconded by Porter that the
Mayor and City Engineer be delegated to attend the Conference. The
motion carried.
It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn.
