HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 10.15.1935Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Laurel,, Montana, October.15, 1935 The City Council of the City of laurel met. in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, and was called to order by Mayor Broughton at 8.;00 oxclock P M., Qcto.ber 15, 1935. Upon Roll Call the following aldermen answered present:. s'sll Smith Conrad Bray Reardon Vordahl The minutes of October let were read and approved. Mr. Lewis Nall,. District Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene appeared before the Council regarding permit to build F church on the corner of Fifth avenue and Pennsylvania :venue. The two mermen from the third ward and the City Engineer met with committee from the Church to< prepare more complete plans. These plans were I presented to the Council and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded i by Reardon that the permit be granted,: The motion carried. d.b.Hodges, W.C.Phillips and A. W Armstrong representing t'he Maose Lodge appeared before the Council asting for permission, to hold meet- I Ings temporarily in the Catholic Community Hall once each month, until they could find place for regular meetings. It was moved by Smith and seconded by Law that the Moose be granted permission to meet temporarily in the Catholic wommunity Hall. The motion carried. A Bond in the amount of 3,000,00 for T. A. Rigney, City I Engineer, Water dommissioner and Street Commissioner written by the Maryland { `Casualty Comp g,,-.of B' altimo-re, Maryland, was presented and read. It was moved by vordahl and seconded by law that the bond be approved. The motion carried, The report of the City Olsrk for the month of September was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Conrad that j the report be approved. The Motion paxriod. The delinauent license report for the month of September was presented and read. It was moved by Smith and seconded by donrad that the report be accepted and placed on file. The motion carried. i An application. was made by A. B. Bartholf to move another box oar on his property on Main: street, 'box car to to be painted and roof changed, and moved off of property later. It was moved by Vardahl and seconded by Smith that the permit be granted, provided that the box car- was moved off of property .by the first of the year, The motion carried. The Police Committee handed in report of the meeting with committee from Commercial flub in regard to traffic regulations etc. The Committee recommended that the City pencil furnish a printed form for the use of Policemen in cautioning motorists for first offenceq, and a record to be kept of warnings with name of driver,Iicense number ani make of car. They also recommended that stop signs be placed on all streets leading into Main street from north and south side streets beginning at 5th Avenue t to and including Alder .venue. And also recommended that the State Highway Commission be asked to place stop signs on Main Highway at inter- section of the six streets east of Alder Avenue to Juniper. It was , moved by Vordahl and seconded by Reardon that the report be accepted and placed on file, The. motion: carried. After some discussion regarding uniform or -regulation cap for Policemen. it was moved by Vozd.ahi and seconded by Law that the Police Oo ittee buy regalationrl©r City Police. The motion carried. The City Engineer reported that the City needed copper -7 expansion joints, which would cost 4500.00 or more. It was moved by j Vordahl and seconded by law that bids be advertised in the Laurel Outloot and sealed bids be received until 8:00-o clock P. M. at the next regular meeting of the City Council, November 5th. The motion carried. The City Council was asked by Mrs. G. F. lindauer to set a price on lots Fourteen and Fifteen in Block Nine, East 'laurel, It was Minutes of the City Council of Laurel moved by Vorda,hl and seconded by Lava that the lots he advertised for sale in the Laurel Outlook and sealed bids be received until 8:00 o;clock P M. at the next regular meeting, November 5th, and a deposit of 5% be made. Resolution No. 450 Resolution No. 450 bei a resolution transferring One-..Nmndred Four Dollars and 36/100 cents ($1€4.36 from the 1916 Funding Bosh. Sinking . Fim,d to the 1916 Funding Bond Interest Fund, was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Reardon that Resolution No. 450 be passed and adopted., Upon roll call all aldermen present med.,. d Aye and said Resolution No. 450 was declared passed and adopted.. lair, Smith was excused at this time, After some discussion regarding tbetime of calling Cpanail meetings to order, it was moved by law and seconded by Vord:ahl that a new ordinance be drawn up changing the time from $ 00 o.! clock to 7:30 o; G-Iack P, Y, upon roll call 411 aldermen present answered Aye and the motion carried. After some discussion regarding the placing of Stzeet stop. signs, it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Last that the Polic6 OpmEalittee and the -City Engineer be given authority to piirchase;eight stop signs and place on special streets.
