Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Laurel, Montana, July 16, 1935 i The;.0ity Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall and was called to order by Idayor R. Broughton at 801 clock P. I'd. July 16, 1935. Upon Roll Call the following aldermen answered present: Vordahl Sidwell Hartley J Conrad Reardon Lava Smith The minutes of July :2nd were read and approved, John Phillip Oswald appeared before the Council as'tir_g for permission to move house on Yellowstone Avenae, aig basement and remodel house. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded' by Reardon that the permit be granted. The motion carried. i4Irs, Lindauer appeared before ` the Council regarding Water tank which had been sold to Armstrong and O'Neill for 420.00. Ijrs Lindauer' said she would be willix?g te;_pAT'25.00 for tank, that I uhe tank was out to her place and that their running gears were being; used. 'ir. L. L. Smith reported that there was a steel tank at Joliet that could be bought for 425.uO and offered to sell to her, but she did not vwant steel tanL. After some discussion the matter was referred to the City Engineer to see if he could settle the matter. An application for permit by Rev. Joseph Crawley for St. An.thonyi s Church, to move the Hesper Church to Laurel and remodel it for a community House on Lot 9, Block 10, Laurel Realty Sub Division was presented and read. After some discussion it was moved by Smith and seconded by Vordahl that the application be tabled for further consideration. The motion carried. An application by-, Ramon_-L ` 1cClung for permiStiOn to move Trailer House on Sixth Ave between Second and Third Streets,, was ? presented and read. After s9me discussion it was moved by Hartley and I seconded by Conrad that the permit be denied. The motion carried. Alec o. Reiter appeared before the City Council and asked for a pewAl-t to wove a house 22 by 24 from 302 Dursland Ave to Lots 11 and 129 Bloat 1, Laurel Yellowstone Subdivision, estimated cost 4bout $1004.00 It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law that the permit be granted, I The motion carried. An application by Geo. Fo.z, jr. to build a house 24 by 36 on Lots 14 and 15 Block 9, Yellowstone Subdivision, was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley that the permit be granted. The motion carried. An application by Jim Kulis to hang a sign on the South Side of I in street opposite his place of business, was presented and read. After some discussion it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law that the matter be referred to the two aldermen in the Pourth hard., The motion carried. All application by Jacob drank, Jr. for permission to dig a basement, add a kitchen and put new roof on his house on 219 Durland avenue, was" presented and read. It uas moved by Hartley and seconded by iieardon that the permit be granted. The motion carried. After some discussion regarding the permit fee of ?5.oo t was moved by Voxdahl and seconded by Smith that the fee be staved in the 'case of Jacob Frank, Jr. if there would be no-_ City Expense. The motion carried. A report of the delinquent license by the City Treasurer was read. Minutes of the City Council of Laurel m laurel, Montana, .July 16, 1935. (Cpnt. ) A letter was read from J. E. Boyer, Secretary of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Beaprtment, astng that the Council appropriate $80,00 for expense of one fireman or 0130.00 expense for two firemen to attend the Convention: of Firemen, After some discussion it was i moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law that the Dire Chief be notified that on account of financial condition of City, the Pouncil'coula only allow them $50.00 for expense to Canven.tion. Upon roll call, Vordahl, Sidwell and Law voted Aye, Hartley, Reardon and Conrad voted No. The vote being a tie, the Mayor voted Aye and the motion carried, The Volunteer Fire Department also asted that the rate of pay for Firemen be,.raised from the present $2.70 level to $5.00 per call for all future calls. After some discussion it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Vordahl that the pay be raised to $3,00 per call. The motion carried. i A letter from Congressman Rohr E. Ayers was read regarding new Post Office Building in Laurel. He stated that the Post Office and Treasury Department would not be able to give consideration to the provision of a. Federal Building in Laurel because postal receipts in Laurel did not amount to $10,000.00 a year. A letter was read from Ray Hart in reply to our letter regarding Water Worts project. U-pore roll dater Fund to the Water Worts "All call, ail aldermen present voted Aye and said resolution Ho. 444 was de- clared passed and adopted. Mr. Rigney, City Water Commissioner, aske4 the ?oun.cil -faz some new meters. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded , by Hartley that he be given permission to purchase five new meters. 'The'motion carried. Mr.. Cp#rad brought up the subject of Trailer Houses being Wved vjithi.n the city limits After some discussion, it was moved by Cbrrrad and seconded by Hartley that the City Att©mney be instructed to draw up an Ordinance barring all frailer Houses from moving within the City Limitq The motion carried. The Committee appointed to nominate an alderman fr-om the, second ward to fill the vzie.x T.ed term of F. C. Scheidecker- reported recommending E. G. Bray. It was moved by Vordahl and -seconded by Hartley th t E. G. Bray be elected to the Office of Alderman to fill the luiexpired terms of F. 0. Sc.heidec'ler, Upon roll call, all aldermen present voted Aye and hereupon the Mayor declared E. G. Brag elected, Mx. A. J. tiger appeared before the Council asking what the Council desired regarding the writing up of Tax Boots. .After. some discs-:lion it was -4a6?6i; b,y Vordahl and seconded by Smith that the tax books be vi itten up in the 0ounty Treas'arert,s office in Billings, I'he motion ca;rried.; Mr. Hartley was excused, Mr. Vordahl, Ghairman of the Water.
