' Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Laurel, Dntana fF May 7, 1935 The city 01ouncil of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council 0haambers in the C ?y Hall and was called to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8:00 0' elocir P. M. 14&y7th, 1935. 'upon roll call the following Alderman answered present. Smith Sidwell Lair Sc hei dec ire r Reardon Vordahl Conrad The minutes of April 16th were read and approved. The Mayor stated this being tine first meeting of the new council that nominations for a President of the Council would now be in order. Mx. Law nominated Nels Vordahl. It was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon that nominations be closed and Help Vordahl be declared elected President of the Council. The motion carried. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of 29iioe for the month of April was presented and read. It was moved by Votdahl and seconded by Rea.rdola that report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police Badge for the month of April was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law-that the report be approved: The motion carried. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of April was presented and read: It was moved by Iaw and seconded by Conrad, that i the report be approved. The motion carried The report of the City Clerk for the month of April was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Reardon that the report be approved. The motion carried.. ORDINANCE NO, 334 Ordinande No. 334 being an Qrdinance limiting the number of retailers oil beer engaged in the sale and distribution of beer, whether on draught or in bottles, to the public, was presented far second reading,. It was moved by Law and seconded by Vordahl that Ordinance be passed on second reading. Upon rgll call all voted No expect Bidwell not voting, This action was taken on account of letter written by State Board of Equalization to City Attorney quoting an opinion of Attorney General who declared that Ordinance was not valid by State Law. ORDINANCE NO. 335 Ordinance No. 335 being an Ordinance combining the Offices of Water Commissioner and City Engineer, providing the Bond Therefor and Repeallgg Ordinance No. 229t was presented and read, It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by eanrad that unanimous consent and vote of the Council be had to place Ordinance Na. 335 upon its immediate passage, Upon roll call all aldermen present voted. Aye. -- It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Conrad that said Ordinance sta. 335 be passed and adopted. Upon roll call, all aldermen present voted Rye. ORDINANCE NO. 336 Ordinance No. Z56 being an Ordinance providing for the Bond of the City Clem of. ithe City of Laurel and Repealing Ordinances in Conflict therewith was presented and read. It etas moved by Ve-idahi and seconded by S dwell that unanimous voiW `ent and gate of 'the G i6i.l. be had to place Ordinance No. 335 upon its mediate passage. IIpan roll call, all aldermen present voted Age, it was moved by Vardahl and seconded by Scheidecker that said Ordinance No. 35 be passed and adopted. Upon roll call, all aldermen present voted Aye. ORDINANCE NO. 333 Ordinance No. 333 being an Ordinance to repeal Ordinance No. 332 defining a public dance hall in the City of Laurel, Montanan providing closing hours therefor; and providing a penaltyfor the violation of said Ordinance, was presented and- read for final passia.ge. It was moved by, Conrad and seconded by Law that Ordinance Na. 33 be finally -passed. Upon roll call, all aldermen present voted Aye except Si.dwell who did not vote.. An application for Plumber's License for Harry West was presented. and read.- It was moved by Vardahl and seconded by Reardon that 4pp3irdat1?: be granted and the City Treasurer be instructed to issue License, Th: motion carried. An applicatioO for Jim Kulis for Restaarant License - Gig tettes r? was presented and read for the second time. It was moved, by-'Schelde tiger and seconded by haw that his application be granted and the City Treasurer be instructed to issue license. The motion Carrie. The matter of purchasing fire hose and fittings was dialenssed.. It Yvas moved by Vordahl and sec3onded by Law that same be referred to the Fire and Police Committee with authority to act. The motion carried. A bond in the amount of O, 000.00 for Alfred J . Banger, Gtty. Treasurer, executed by the .Maryland 04-aualty'4ompany of Baltimore, ° ryland, for the period ending May 6th, 1937 was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Conrad that the bond be approved. The motion carried„ The Street and Alley dommittee reported that Mr. Weider be permitted to erect a sign over the Sidewalk at the Gas- -pp Station. It was moved by 'Fordahl and seconded by Law that he be permitted to .. ; erect the sign... The motion carried. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law that the City A,ttorney be instructed to write to S. M. Thornton informing him that the bog c4rs placed on his property was considered a fire hazard by the City ?oanciT. The motion carried.
