Laurel, Montana,
March 5, 1935.
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular
session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall and was called
to order by " mayor R. Broughton at 8:00 o'clock P. It. Tuesday
March 5, 1935.
Upon roll call the following Aldermen answered present:
Bray
Sidwell
Law
Saheideeker
Res rden
Vardahl
Har t ley; „
Conrad
The minutes of February 17th and 19th were read and
approved':
Mr. John boran appeared before the City Council and re-
quested permission to stage a stag party on the "Slippery Gulch"
order for the Commercial Club in the machine sloop on March 15th
and 16th. it was moved by Reardon and seconded by Scheidecker
that the request be granted. The motion carried.
mr. Hiner appeared before the City Council regarding a
concrete mixer and the matter was referred to the stater Committee.
Lir. Jack Bevens appeared before the City Council in re-
gard to transients doing labor work. After some discussion it was

record as being opp-osed to transients doing labor in competition
with local labor. The motion carried.
An application by Bernard Rose for a plumbing license was
presented and read. it was moved by Bray and seconded by Hartley
that the application be denied as he was being cared for by the
transient service. The motion carried. ?
mr. r'red Jacobson appeared before the City Council in re-
gard to constructing a garage and shop out of a box car. After the
ordinance had been explained to him he stated that he would change
his plans in accordance with the city ordinance
R This being the time set for receivbtg bids for material
for the reservoir, the Clerk was instructed to open and read the bids
submitted. The bids were as follows

The bids submitted were referred to the Water Committee.. After due
deliberation the Committee reported back recommending that the 40,000
pounds of reinforcing steel be purchased from the Kalman Steel Co.
at 9.44 for " and 3.64 for 3/811. It wa.s moved by Vordahl and second.-
eel by Conrad ; that the report of the Committee be adopted. Upon roil
call, all Aldermen present vo-ted aye a-rid ttie motion was declared

Hartley that the report of the Committee be adopted. upon roll call,
all Aldermen present voted aye. The motion was declared passed'.
The:Commi.ttee also recommended that the 600 yards of gravel and 350
yards of sand be purchased from Grant Smith Company at $1.00 per
yard FOB Blum Pit. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Hartley,
that the report of the Committee be adopted. Upon roll call, all
Aldermen present voted aye and sa id motion was declared. passed.'
The bills for the month of February were referred to the
Finance Committee and, after due deliberation; the Committee report-
ed back recommending the payment of the following:

It was moved by Vordahl and secon ded by Reardon that the report of
the Committee be accepte d and tha t warrants be issued in the manner
recommended by the Commi ttee. The motion carried.
The report of the City Treasurer for the month of February
was presented and read." It was m oved by Vorda.hl and seco nded by
Reardon that the report be approv ed. The motion carried. `
The report of the Healt h Officer was presented and read.
It `.was. moved by, Vordahl and secon ded by Reardon that the report be
approved. The motion ca rried.
The report of the-Poli ce Judge for the month o f February'
was presented and read.. It was m oved by Law and seconded by Reardon
that the report be appro ved. The motion carried.
The report of the Chie f of Police for the mont h of Feb-
ruary was presented and - read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded
by Scheide,eker that the report be approved. The motion c arried.
A letter from the Inde pendent Refining Company regarding,
their contract for water .was presented an:d read. It was moved by
Hartley and seconded-by Fordahl t hat the matter be referr ed to the
Finance and Water Commit tees. Upon roll call, all Alderm en' present'
voted aye and _the Mayor declared the motion passed.` -`

A storage contract for the fire truck with Sam DeFrance
was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by
Sidwell that the contract be approved and that the Mayor and City
Clerk be authorized to sign contract. The motion carried.
An easement for electric light wire for Frank Platz over
the city's River Side Park was presented and read. It was moved
by Conrad and. seconded by Vordahl that the contract be approved and
that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign contract. The
motion carried.
An application by Harold Botteran for a plumbing license
was presented and read. It was moved by Hartley and seconded by
Vordah.l that the request be granted and the City Treasurer authorized
to issue license. The motion carried.

transmission line north of the city be granted. There being no sec-

RESOLUTION NO. 442.
Resolution No. 442, being a resolution declaring an emer-
gency exists requiring additional expenditures from the water fund
and directing.publication of notice-of a public hearing, was pre-
sented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law that
said resolution be passed and adopted. Upon roll call, all Aldermen
present voted aye and said resolution was declared passed and adopted.
It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn. The
motion carried.
