The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor R. Broughton at 8: cJO O'clock P. M., Tuesday, Jan- uary 15, 1935. Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present: Bray Bidwell Zara i Scheidecker gorda hl i Reardon Conrad Hartley The minutes of January 2nd were read- and approved.. An application by Ruamy Dnsmoor to build a porch on dwelling house was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Scheidecker that the permit be granted. the Motion carried. An application by George Harlan to erect a building out 1 of box cars was held up fox further details and until plans and specifications were approved. portion ofa?npStreetofordumpngBmaterialspto be susedtin urepairing building on Main Street was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Reardon: that the permit be granted. The motion carried. A communication for R. B. Packard, Fire Chief, relative to, the condition of the City Hail was read. The Clerk was instruct- i ed to write him that the outside door at the foot of the stairs I would be changed to swing outward and the workroom would be cleaned up and all inflamable materials removed and that any other changes for the accomadati.on of the Relief office would have to be born: by the Relief Agency. A motion to that effect was made by Hartley and seconded by Bidwell. The motion carried. A cowunication from Dr. E;. C. Hall, City Health. Officer, was read and contents noted. The Clerk was -directed to reply,to the letter written by Br. Hall. Mayor Broughton reported that he had received a letter from Dr. W. J. Bu.tlex, State Relief Administratos stating that relief agencies were established at ashington, D. C., on a county unit basis and that it would be impossible to segregate Laurel from the rest of Yellowstone County. A communication from San De..rance relative to housing the pity fire 'trunk was read. it was moved by Vordahl and see'onaed by Conrad that the matter be turned over to the Fire, Paliee committee with full authority to acts'.-in providing a place fox the City--tire truck. The motion carried. An application by H. E. Herbert for the appoint as :a policeman was read and placed on file. it was moved by gartley and seconded by Reardon that the matter of selecting a policeman die referred to the Mayor and Police Committee with full authority to select and employ a policeman. The motion carried. A bill of R. J. Williams for $54.00; premium on fire ins- J urance policy cowering the` new machine shop, was presented and res fexred to the Finance Committee and, after due deliberation, the Finance Committee reported back favorable and it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Bray that the claim be paid and a warrant be issued in payment of the same The motion carried. ? The labor claim of Jake Ban.gert and Henry Schmidt jr. for $8.60 each were. read and referred to the Finance Committee and, after due `deliberation.,' the Finance Committee recommended` that the claims be allowed. Thereupon, it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Bray that waxrants be issued in payment thereof, if it was determined the claims were a .City expense account- .-The motion parried. An application by Ray Cady -for license to operate the auto wrecking establishment foxmerly, operated by, H. R. Barney. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Reardon thathis request be granted` and the Treasurer authorized to issue license. The motion carried. An application by 0. 0. Randall for' license to operate a restaurant in the Little Dutch inn beer parlor was, presented and read. It was moved,by Hartley and seconded by Reardon that the re Quest be granted and hat. the Treasurex be authorized to issue license, The motion carried. An application by F. N. Barney for water service from the main transmission line north of the city was read and placed on file. rv The Treasurers report for the month of December was presented and read. It was moved by Yordahl and seconded by Conrad that the Treasurers report be approved. The motion carried. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Scheideeker that the Clerk write to the State Examiner in Helena to see if it was necessary for the City Council to approve the deposit of $5,000.00 by the City Treasurer in the Yellowst one Bank as an insurety act by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation of Washington, D. C., or whether the Examiner had the authority to order the Treasurer to make each deposit. i A motion was made by Vordahl and seconded by Sidwell that the Yellowstone Bank of Laurel, Montana.,- be approved as a ,city depository for the amount of $5,600.00, which amount is insured-by the YDIC and protected by law, as advised by the Deputy State Exam- iner, R. A Lathom. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present-;voted aye and said motion` was unamiously carried. An application of S. D. Gnann of Fauvoo, Illinois, owner of the ranch on which the City water main line runs, asking for a fire hydrant to be installed at his farm, was presented and read. Itwas moved by Vordahl and seconded by Scheidecker that the request be granted provided a suitable contract was made relieving the City of any liability or further expense in repairing or servicing the same, Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye except Bray, who voted no. Thereupon the Mayor declared the motion passed. This. being the time fixed for received bids for 5400 feet of 101" cast iron water mains and other accessories, the Clerk was instructed to open said bids. A bid was submitted by the pacific States Cast Iron. Pipe Company of Provo, Utah, It was moved by Bray and seconded by Scheideeker that the Council recess and the bid be referred to the Rater and Finance Committees of the City Council to consider the same and report back to the Council. After due deliber- ation, The members of the 'dater & Finance Committees reported bank recommending that the bid of the Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company be accepted and that the order be placed as the pipe is needed. The bid submitted read as follows: "The Honorable Mayor, And City Council, Laurel, Montana. Gentlemen; in response to your ,tall for bids orb; east iron pipe and fittings to be opened Tuesdsy,,,January 15, 3935, we take please in submitting,,-- the following for your consideration:- 6400T of 1017 x 181 McWane-Pacific horizontal sand east B & S Class 150, precalked cast iron, pipe at $1.79 per, foot. ?-, 10" precalked dub end tees, each $26.00 10" hub x 8T' spigot reducers, precalkedp11.50 each. These prices are f.o.b.- foundry, Provo, Utah, with full freight allowed to Laurel, Montana. Shipment of this material can start immediately, and be completed as required. Terms are in accordance with our conversation with your Mr. Rigney, and your pity dater Committee. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Bray that the report of the plater and Finance Committees be accepted and that the bid of the Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company be accepted and the pipe and accessories be ordered shipped as needed and that warrants in pay- ment of the same be issued. Upon roll call,all Aldexmen prekent voted aye and Mayor declared the motion passed. A motion was..msde by Bray and seconded by Qonra:d that the City Treasurer publish notice that dog license were due and that dog license tags were available at his office. The motion carried.
