Chairwoman Kate Hart called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. The January 8, 2009, minutes were
approved as written. Motion made by Amy Pollock and seconded by Norm Stamper.
Kurt Markegard informed the committee that a sign was constructed by a local Eagle Scout as a public
service project. This sign was built to be in Riverside campground. Pictures of the sign were distributed.
A night will be set aside to honor the scout and his parents and advisor at a Council meeting. Motion was
made by Norm Stamper to recommend to the Council to accept the sign as a donation to Riverside Park,
seconded by Amy.
Chairman Hart brought up the fact that the committee is shy by two members and that these members
could be from the surrounding area and not within the boundaries of the city only.
Kate asked the Public Works Director to give a report on the parks.
1. MMIA is looking into the horseshoe pit area damaged by a vehicle and what needs to be repaired.
2. Lions Park still needs concrete. The New Life Foursquare Church group has offered to do the
installation of the new play toy at Nutting Park.
3. Kurt asked the board about the possibility to pursue the repair of the bathrooms at Riverside Park.
4. Kurt informed the committee that the Tree Board plans to plant new trees in Russell and Riverside
Parks to replace trees that have been removed or have blown over in recent storms.
5. The contractor moved the caboose from the high school field to the area next to Hardees's in
anticipation of an easement to set it on MRL right-of-way on the south side of the tracks nearby.
6. Kurt updated the committee on the heat tape and replacement of the fresh water supply line that
broke under the bridge for Riverside Park and how it will be repaired.
With no further business for the committee, the meeting was adjourned at 6:13 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mark Mace
