The City Council of the City
Council Chamber and was called to
P. 111. December 15, 1936.
Upon roll call the following

of Laurel met in regular session in the

The minutes of ,December lst were read and approved.
mr. Gudgel of Gudgel 3rothers, contractors, appeared before the
Council in regards to oiling streets at a price of 20V to 24¢ per square
yard and presented their form of contract. The matter was referred to
the Street & alley Committee.
The report of the Health officer for the month of 13ovember was
presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by L. L. Smith the
report be approved. The motion carried.
An application by `1. 0. Baker for permission to operate a trailer-
house camp at the 1,11est End Filling station with proper sanitary equipment
was presented and read. There being no license covering this business,
it was moved by Conrad and seconded by L. L. Smith the matter be referred
to the Finance Committee to report at the next meeting. The motion carried.
An application from Henry E. Herbert for a position in the police
Department was presented and read. after discussion it was moved by
Conrad and seconded by Thomson the Deputy Sheriff be appointed as day
Policeman with the other two policemen each working eight hours. Upon
roll call Thomson and Conrad voted aye and L. I,. Smith, ,looters, Bray,
1. 1% Smith and Law voted no. The motion was declared lost.
E. 1,.. Hucera and Henry E. Herbert were nominated for the position as
Policeman. It was moved by Bray and seconded by L. L. Smith the nominations
be closed. The :notion carried. Ballots were cast with 4cucera receiving
four votes and Herbert three votes. Thereupon, the Mayor appointed
B. Id. 1Lucera to the position of Policeman. It was moved by L. L. Smith
and seconded by Law the appointment be approved. Upon roll call all
aldermen present voted aye except Wooters who voted no. The motion was
declared passed.
The Police Judge appeared before the Council in regards to a police
car, raising revenue and speeding and asked that the Council take some
action.
The City Engineer reported on the meeting of the Montana yunicipal
League in Helena.
The City Treasurer reported money deposited at the yellowstone Bann
in the amount of Q$34,000, with 029,000 security and that additional
security was not ready. It was moved by Last and seconded by L. L. Smith
the matter be tabled until the next meeting. The motion carried.
The City Treasurer reported an over-deposit of X5,000 at the Yellow-
stone Bank and asked for the City Council's instructions. It was moved by
L. L. Smith and seconded by Bray the X5,000 be deposited with a Billings
bank unless the Yellowstone Bank gave the necessary security. The
motion carried.
It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Bray the matter of the
necessity and requirements for the purchasing of a police car be investi-
gated by the Police Committee and report at the next meeting. Upon roll
call all aldermen present voted aye except I. 11. Smith and Law who voted
no. The motion was declared passed.
