HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 10.06.1936Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Octo ber 6, 1936 The city Council of the City of Lau rel met in regular session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order by Mr. Conrad, President of the Council at 7:30 o'clock P. M. October 6, 1936. Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present: I. r. Smith Thomson L. L. Smith Conrad Wooters Bray Reardon Law The minutes of September 15, were read and approved. The report of the Health officer for the month of September was presented and read. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by wooters the report be approved as re ad hnd the case of typhoid fever repo rted quarantined be fully explain ed. The motion carried. The report of the . Water Commissioner for the month of September was presented and read. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Reardon the report be approved. The motion carried. I. N. Smith arrived and participated in the further deliberation of the meeting. The report of the City Clerk for the month of September was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon the report be approved. The motion carrie d. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of September was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Thomson the report be approved. The motion car ried. .Mayor Broughton arrived and presided. The report of the Chief of police for the month of September was presented and read. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Reardon the report be approved. The motion carried. Co'. n 28.38 It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Thomson the report of the Finance Committee be adopted and warrants iss-ued in the manner recommended by the committee. The motion carried. An application for a permit by Dorothy Jackson to move two buildings, size 12$18 and 14x16 from Thornton's lots to Lots 11:, 12 and 13, Block 30, Allard Subdivision, and remodel into modern house with two porches, to be painted and shingled with comete foundation and basement, was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon the permit be granted. The motion carried. An application by G. 2. Lindauer for a permit to move a frame house, 24x32, from ranch one mile southeast of Laurel to lots 5 and 6, block 2, Laurel Heights and place on foundation, shingle and paint and to be connected with sewer and water, was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Law the permit be granted. The motion carried. An application by Paul Wilson for a permit to build a frame and stucco house 24x40 on lots 9 and 10, block 12, Laurel Heights Subdivision, to be modern and cost approximately X3300, was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon the permit be granted. The motion carried. An application by o. m. Wold for a permit to build an Automobile Storage and Body Shop frame and stucco, size 80x50, on lots 11, 12 and 13, block 29 East laurel, with rubberoid roof to cost approximately 43000, was presented and read. It was moved by wooters and seconded by Reardon the permit be granted. The motion carried. An application by 0. M. old for a permit to build a garage 2Ox60, frame with provision to stucco later on lot 14, block 2, East Laurel, was presented and read. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Reardon the permit be granted. The motion carried. A list of supplies needed by the Fire Department was,.:presented and read. A representative of the Bi-Lateral Fire Hose Co. appeared before the council with samples of fire hose. After discussion the Mayor declared a recess and instructed the Fire and Police Committee to meet with the salesman and report back. Mayor Broughton left during the recess and mr. Conrad presided during the remainder of the meeting. Minutes of the City Council of Laurel October 6 , 1936 - Continued - The Fire & Police Committee reported back recommending the purchase of 400 feet of fire hose at $499.00, 200 feet to be paid for January 1, 1937, the balance by January 1, 19389 with no interest.. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Thomson the report of the committee be accepted and fire hose purchased according to their report. It was moved by Law and seconded by Bray the motion be amended and 200 feet of fire hose be purchased instead of 400 feet. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted no except Law and Bray who voted yes and the motion was declared lost. Upon roll call for the original motion all aldermen present voted yes except Law who voted no, and the motion was declared passed. Mr. L. L. Smith presented the matter of the cost of installing the pump at the pump house, stating that the cost of a certain tee to connect with the main cost approximately $105.00, and that Mr, Brohaugh would install the pump complete, furnishing the tee and labor for $85.00. It was moved by I. N. Smith and seconded by Wooters the matter be referred to the Water Committee for investigation with authority to act. The motion carried. MT. L. L. Smith also presented the matter of mailing a connection with the refinery pump so that it could be used in an emergency. The water Committee was instructed to investigate the matter along with the matter of installing the pump. I. IN. Smith reported in regards to the sewing project stating that satisfactory arrangements had been made. It was moved by Reardon and seconded by Bray the committee appointed to investigate the matter of the seeing project be dismissed. The motion carried. A report was made on the progress of securing a gravity drain at the underpass. It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn. The motion carried.
