Smith Thomson The minutes of July 7th were read and approved, The report of the dater Commissioner for the month of June was presented and read. It vas moved by. Thomson and seconded by L. L. Smith the report be approved. The motion carried. An application for a permit by H. E. Marshall to remodel building, occupied by the telephone office by making a. new front and new office to cost approximately $1000.00 'was presented and read, It was moved by Reardon and seconded by Wooters the permit be granted. The motion carried. A letter was read from the City Treasurer requesting a leave of absence for thirty days. :fit was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon the request be granted. The motion carried. A petition from the tag payers and residents of Fifth Street asking for the enforcement of the speed limit of tvuenty-five miles per hour on said street was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Bray that a notice be published in the Laurel outlook that the speed limit in the City of Laurel is. twenty-five miles per hour and those exceeding that would be prosecuted. The motion carried. Bonds of the Yellowstone Bank for x'10,000 for guarantee of deposits with said bank were presented for quarterly approval. It was moved by L, L. Smith and seconded by Reardon the bonds be approved. Upon roll call all Minutes of the City Council of Laurel July 21, 1936 The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chambers at the City Ball and was called to order by Mayor Broughton at 730 o'clock P. 11. July 21, 1936, aldermen present'voted.aye and the motion was declared passed. 450LUTI014 NO. 460 Resolution No. 460, beinga resolution transferring certain funds of the City of Laurel from the 1916 Funding Bond Interest Fund to the 1916 Funding :bond Sinking Fund and from bight Construction ado. 1 fund, Special Sewer Fund, S. I. D. No. 11, 161P 39, and 68 Funds to the General Fund was presented and read. .`It was moved by L L. Smith and seconded by ,Reardon that the, resolution be 'passed and adopted, Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and .said resolution was declared passed and adopted. The City Attorney presented the matter of the City not having an ordinance fixing license for carnivals and suggested that a committee from the Council meet with heads of sponsor organizations and report back. it was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Law 'the matter be referred to the Finance Committee and report at the next meeting. The motion carried. This being the time set for receiving bids for the purchase of a pump and electric motor, the Clerk was instructed to open and receive all bids. Bids were received from the following firms; Fairbanks-morse & Company, Inger- soll-Rand Company, Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company, Aurora Pump Company, Crane Company of Minnesota, iviarshall-Wells Company, Le Laval Steam Turbine Company° and Elorris Machine Works. Salesmen from several different firms appeared before the council in regards to the bids and the Mayor asked the eater Committee, Purchasing Committee, City Attorney and Water Commissioner to meet with the salesmen and report back. A recess v4s declared and Mayor Broughton ree.eived a call. Upon the return of the committees, Mr. Reardon was elected as president pro tem of the. Council to preside during the absence of the Mayor. Mr L. L. Smith reported that the committee had decided to purchase a high speed pump from the Fairbanks Morse & Company for $801.30, with the approval of_ the Council. This being the best and lowest bid received, it was moved by Wooters and seconded by I.. i. Smith that the report of the Committee be accepted, The motion carried, Mayor Broughton returned and presided during the TOMa .rider of the meeting. Minutes of the City Council of Laurel July 21, 1936 - Continued The City Clerk submitted the budget to the Council and the tabulation was read to the Council as a whole. it was approved as sub- mitted by the Clerk. Thereupon it was moved by law and seconded by Reardon that the budget be approved and that the Clerk be instructed to publish notice in the Laurel outlook as required by law. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and the mayor declared the motion passed, The City Engineer reported in regards to the drainage of the underpass that a written request was made to the State Highway Commission for enlarged the and drainage to the seder bed and that i,,_r. Ephland reported the matter would be investigated. After discussion it was moved by Law and seconded by L. 1. Smith the request of T^ r. p. Johnston who asked the City to refund the delinquent imiprovement taxes on lots purchased from the Yellowstone Cou' ty by TJr. C. 1. Laird and himself be denied. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and the ,iayor declared the motion passed. After some discussion it was moved by law and seconded by 3ray the City of Laurel continue to levy special taxes and assessments on tax title lots. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye, except Thomson who voted no, and the %Iayor declared the motion passed. iir. Reardon of the kolice Committee reported that in regards to hiring a traffic cop, they had not been able to mane satisfactory arrange- ments. In regards to a parting station and information bureau on the south side of iJain street between the City part and the Johnston .Lumber Company, the i-layor re=ported that the State Highway Commission and 11orthern Pacific Railway Company had reject the proposals.
