June 16, 1936
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session
in the Council Chambers in the City Nall and was called to order by
I,layor Broughton at 7:30 of clock p. M. June 16, 1936.

The minutes of June 2nd were read and approved.
The report of the ;crater Commissioner for the month of Islay
was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by L. L. Smith
the report be approved and placed on file. The motion carried.
The Street & Alley Committee reported in regards to the purchase
of a truck as follows: Prices were submitted for a Ford V-8 truck from
the Eew ;peal Garage,, for International truck from the 0. ICI. 1,7old Co. and
for a Chevrolet truck from the Yellowstone motor CO. Discussion followed.
It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Law that.the City of Laurel advertise
for bids for a 12 ton truck. The motion carried.
It was roved by Conrad and seconded by L.
and Alley Committee and Street Commissioner draw up
for garbage hauling and it be advertised fox bids.
I-,IT. Conrad suggested that garbage be hauled once a

I,Ir. L. L. Smith retorted for the 'ilater Committee in regards to
the purchase os a new pump that they would like an extension of time. It
was moved by Law and seconded by Thomson the `;Water committee be granted
an extension of time. The motion carried.
yT. Conrad reported for the park committee in regards to the
painting of the rim of the wading pool in the City park, that there mas a
question of painting just the coping or the entire pool and that he was
not able to secure prices on c?aint, but that it would require approximately
ten gallons of paint. it was moved by L. T. Smith and seconded by Thomson
the painting be deferred for this year. The motion carried.
Iysr. i'looters reported for the Street & Alley Committee in regards
to the permit of Louis Anent to erect a tin sign on the sidewalk in front
of the Taylor & Boyer Barber Shop, that the sign would be taken inside
every night and that it would not be harmful. It was moved by 1vlooters
and seconded by I. N. Smith the permit be,granted. The motion carried.
An application for a permit by C. L. Morris to construct a
brick store building 30 ft. x 90 ft. on Lot 99 Block 1, East Laurel,
Subdivision, to cost approximately 44500.00 was. presented and read. It
was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon the permit be _granted. The
,notion carried.
The ;,;later Commissioner reported a leak in the service line on
hots 9 & 10, between Colorado and Pennsylvania Avenues with two houses on
the same lot and occupied by 11. R. Walton and D. H. Myers, the two
residences being on the same service line. They would like permission to
replace the service line in the same manner. It was moved by L. L. Smith
and seconded by Reardon that permission be granted to install the line
in the same manner as before. The motion carried.
I,Irs. 0. L. Morris appeared before the council in regards to the
proposed extension to the City Library, stating that they had approximately
1;'725 and that an extra one-half mill levy would be sufficient. It was
moved by Conrad and seconded by L. L. Smith the matter be referred to the
- $udget committee to confer with the Library Board and work out some plans.
The motion carried.
I. i. Smith arrived and participated in the further deliberation
of the meeting.

MT. A. Hazen appeared before the Council:`. in regards to the fence in
his alley made of box car doors and that he had strengthened them. After
discussion it wqs moved by Bray and seconded by . ooters the street &: Alley
Committee investigate the fence as to its safety and report at the next
meeting. The motion carried.
I1r. Law reported that the drain on Highway ho. 310 east of laurel
was not sufficient to carry waste water and that water was standing along
the highway from 'Perry & Tubman' s store east to the Yard Office. h-,jayor
Broughton stated that it was under the control of the State Highway Commission..
After discussion it was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Bray the street
&c Gilley Committee co-operate with the City Engineer and investigate the matter.
The notion carried.
111. Wooters reported complaints were made to him about the Valek
Rooming House throwing loose garbage in the alley back of the owl Cafe and
Hageter & Reardon' s. It was moved by Vooters and seconded by L. L. Smith
a letter be written to the Valek Rooming House_with instructions to refrain
from disposing garbage there. The motion carried.
11r. Wooters reported that there was no 'way of disposing of garbage
in the alley back of the J. C. Penney store and the immediate block, and that
the residents of that block would like permission to build an incinerator.
After discussion it was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by EIdooters that
permission be granted to build an incinerator of the double compartment type
to take care of both kinds of garbage and that 'his be as an experiment.
The motion carried.
It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Thomson that we do now
adjourn. The motion carried.
