Broughton at 7:30 of clock P. m., June 2, 1936. Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present; Conrad L. L. Smith Thomson wooters 1. N. Smith :3ray Reardon t Law The minutes of may 19th were read and approved. The report of the Polite Judge for the month of 1,Tay was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of police for the month of IvIay was presented and read. It was. moved by Law and seconded L. L. Smith the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Health officer for the month of IIay was presented and read. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Conrad the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of may was presented and read. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Thomson the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Clerk for the month of rmiay was presented and read. It was moved by Law, and seconded by Reardon the report be approved. The motion carried. Smith the report of the Zinance Committee be adopted and that warrants be issued in the manner recommended by the Committee . The mo tion carried. The permit of the Iiew Deal Garage to erect an electric Ford sign 4x8, at 305 East !,;lain Stree t on the front of the building over t he sidewalk was presented and read. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Law that the permit be granted a nd the sign hung according to city specifications. The motion carried. The permit of 0. V1. Laird & P. A, Johnston to build a frame house 28x24 and garage 12x20, to be modern, connected with sewer and water on rots 3 & 4, Block 12, Laurel Heights Subdivision, to cost approximately x;2200.00, was presented and read. it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Reardon the permit be granted. The motion carried. The permit of Harry Gerlach to remodel dwelling at 402 T,?. Fifth Ave. was presented and read. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Thomson that the permit be granted. The motion carried. The permit of the City Library Board to construct an addition to the City Library on concrete foundation 28x28, to be brick and modern, to cost approximately $1000.00, was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Conrad that the permit be granted. The motion carried. The permit of Fred Feurbacher to raise his house 12x12 and porchs 8x12 and 8x16 to a foundation and basement at 214 Durland Ave., to cost approximately $600.00, was presented and read. it was moved by 11ooters and seconded by Reardon the permit be granted. The motion carried. The permit Of Louis Anest to place a tin sign 30,1 x 21 on the side- walk in front of the Taylor & Boyer Barber Shop was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by L. L. Smith the permit be referred to the Street & alley Committee for report at the next meeting. The motion carried. A bond in the amount of X2000.00 for Rosella Fritz, City Clerk, executed by the United States ;Fidelity & Guaranty Company of Bv.ltimore, Maryland, for a period ending May 5, 1937, was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon the bond be approved. The motion carried. yr. Law brought up the subject of garbage in the alleys on the south side. After some discussion it jFaas moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Law the Chief of Police co-operate with the City Engineer and clean the alleys of garbage and railroad ties, etc. The motion carried. IdT. 0. J. iicLianus appeared before the 00=cil for permission to connect the sewer to the St. Anthony's Recreational. Hall from the residence owned by them, the sewer being on the same line. It was moved by I. H. Smith and seconded by Wooters that permission be granted to connect the sewer to the hall from the residence owned by the same party. The motion carried. 11r. John lilartin appeared before the Council and made a complaint about a fence constructed of box car doors in the alley at 501 Elm avenue, the .residence occupied by dir. Hazen, as not being safe for children to play around and was ready to fall down. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Law that the complaint be referred to the Police Department for investigation. The motion carried. Minutes of the City Council of Laurel dune 2, 1936 - Continued L. L. Smith presented the matter of the police officers needing new trousers and one officer not wearing his uniform. After discussion it was moved by Wooters and seconded by Law that the Zity buy each of the three police officers a pair of trousers. The motion carried. It was moved by Law and seconded by Bray that the police Comittee investigate the matter of one police Officer not wearing his uniform and report at the next meeting. The motion carried. . I. r. Smith brought up the matter of a deposit being necessary to order the trousers for the Police officers of approximately ;;6.00. It was gloved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Bray that the City Clerk advance the necessary money from Petty Cash needed to order the trousers. The motion carried. IIr. Rigney asked.:the Council for a motion of instructions to continue street work as the budget in the Street Fund was 'exhausted and it was so near to budget time. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by L. L. Smith that the Street Commissioner be authorized to continue to repair the streets. The motion carried. mir. Rigney also asked the Council for instructions-:.in Garbage District No. 1, as the budget was also exhausted in that fund. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Bray that the City Engineer be instructed to continue hauling garbage in District Igo. 1. The motion carried. IvIr. Rigney reported on the progress of the Reservoir and that additional funds had been requested. I,Ir. Rigney also brought up the matter of the need of a new truck. After discussion it was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Reardon that the matter be referred to the Street and Alley Committee and report at the next meeting. The motion carried. Conrad presented the smatter of the Library Board in regards to their need of necessary funds in the budget for building the addition to the City Library. It 'was moved by Conrad and seconded by L. L. Smith the Library Board be notified to present their request to the Finance Committee. The mot i or_ carried. I?Tayor Broughton reported that the County Commissioners were working on Railroad Street/ and that mr. Tytanz of the Independent Refining Company would donate road oil for the oiling of the street. / and "_pAtt ;-Of::Fifth Avenue, Mr. L. L. Smith presented the matter of the need of a new pump. After discussion it was moved by Law and seconded by Conrad that the matter be referred to the Water Committee and report at the next meeting. The motion carried. kxayor Broughton presented the matter of painting the rim of the wading pool in the City Park. The ,d. P. A. would furnish the labor if the City would furnish the paint. rfter discussion it was moved by Law and seconded by L. L. Smith the matter be referred to the Park Committee and report at the next meeting. The motion carried. I,Ir. Ranger brought up the ma- ,?ter of buying more grasshopper poison. after discussion it was moved by (;onrad and seconded bz L. L. Smith that the Purchasing Committee be authorized to purchase more grasshopper poison if the demaW made it necessary. The motion carried. mr. Thomson presented the matter of hilr. Charles Rodgers asking for permission to put a headgate in the drain ditch to get water for irrigation. The City Attorney advised not to allow any irrigation from a drain ditch. It was moved by L. L. Smith and seconded by Bray the request be denied. The motion carried. ad j ourn. It was moved by L. L.
