City Council of the tty of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall and was called to order by the President of the Council. Hels V©rdahl at 7,50 o! clock .B. M. April 7'92 .1936. Upon B011 Call the following. aldermen answered present. V'ordahl Sidwell Smith Conrad Bray Reardon Law Dr. Broughton arrived and presided during the, remainder of t5e meeting. The minutes of ljarch 17th were read and approved. The Police Report for the- month of arch was presented .and: , read. The , motion earri®d4 rs Conrad of the L., L, Club appeared before the City council and asked the Council to reconsider. the application of the Z. L. 01ub to xeshingle the roof of their bnillding. It was mooed by vordahl, and seconded by Law that the application be reconsidered. The motion j carried. i After some discussion a motion was made by lrotdahl and seconded by 0onrued.lhat the 1, L. Club be allowed to reshingle their roof with . aryr7p h ngles instead of composition, shingles. The motion carried L. Hamilton appeared before the Council -and asked for a permit to ;erect a sign fiver the sidewalk on the Blakely Building at 403 East ain Street, Lot 9, 3lock.4, Laurel Realty Subdivision. Sign to be 4 ft by 7-j ft, Sign to be erected in. -aaeordance with city Ordinance as tO height eto« It was moved by Smith -and. seconded by Reardon th& the permit be granted,, The motion c3arried. 5. P. Harris and Joe Nicholas appeared before the Council asking for permits to install one 2000 gal9 gas©1.3.ZG tank in front of sot 10, Black 49 Laurel Realty Zubdiv sion, `tank to be outside of sidewalk also to place underground one 2000 gal, gasoline tank for tractor fuel, can lot lot Block 4, and one 1004 tank fear kerosene placed underground on said lot 10 Brlook 4, They also asked for permission to erect two over- head gasoline tanks with underground connections to Railroad txac'K, one tank .BQpQ gal and one tank 2G300 gal. an said Lot 14, :.Bl:ock 4, Isaurel Realty -Subdivision, ur. Geo.. Smith pr©teste.d the overhead tanks as being a, fire hazzard and also because it would raise insArance rates. after some diseossion it was moved by $rar and seconded by ,haw that the Mayor appoint a co ttes to investigate 'and report back to the Council, The ' or appointed the Street and alley 0am?ittee to investigate, The motion carried, Xr:s. Mae Staples appeared before the Council and asked for Permission to move 'a threexoom building on t 8, Block 1, East Laurel to be used for lunch room. After some discussion regaxdin# the requirements for fi.repsoof buildings in business section of the tewn the application was changed to read, `plastered inside, stucco outside, composi.ti?ri roof= and concrete fc?m3datian«t was moved by Smith and seconded by ordahl that the permit be granted. Upon Ball Call all aldermen present voted Aye and the motion carried, Price Bros. asked for a license to operate a Beer Parlox at 113 Nest Main St,. it was moved by onrad and seconded by law that the permit be granted. A11 aldermen present voted .aye with the exception of Sidwell who voted No., The motion carried. I€elbourne Thomas asked for a permit to erect a BeQn Sign to extend over the sidewalk in front of 9the 'ell.owstone Frill, with a clearance of 14 ft. It was moved by Conrad and seconded--by Beard©n that. the permit be granted. The motion carried. Minutes of the City Council of Laurel April 19, 1936. 43 John artan asked for a permit to build a Garage, 22 by 24 at 604 Fir Ave. Garage to be painted and approximate cost .100.00. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Eeardon that the permit be granted. The motion carried. Schessler Bros. asked for a permit to build a frame Garage, stucco outside, cement floor, 30 by 40 ft.. on Lot 17, block 2, Laurel Realty s$bdivision. It was moved by Reardon and seconded by Law that the permit be granted. The motion carried* A list of new, changed and additional occupations to be licensed was read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Ba, 'that the City Treasurer be instructed to colleot, with the exception of Mrs. Frank for laundry, and that 2hornton's should read ",detail Lumber" and Peed. The motion carried. .A. letter was read from the Laurel Volunteer Five Department stating that two firemen, A. J. Scholz and Les Slaughter had resigned and recommended. Henry Dewitt and Paul Wilson for vacancies. The Mayor appointed Henry Dewitt and Paul Wilson, It was moved by V'ordahl and seconded by Smith that the appointments be approved. The motion was carried. RESCIUTION. .A Resolution requesting' increased culverts and improved drainage along ihe'North side of Highway No, 10 east of City, was presented and read. It was moved by Vord:ahl and seconded by Conrad . that said Resolution be passed and adopted-. Upon Boll Gall all aldermen present voted Aye and ebd..:Beo.3ut.a;an°was passed and adopted. Mr. Vordahl brought up the matter of lights being left on in lower part of City Building until 4 o'clock in the morning. After some discussion, it was moved by 'Smith and seconded by_}lrsy that Mrs, Palmer be asked to come before the Gonnail, _and explain why lights had been left burning. The motion carried. Mrs. Palmer appeared before the Council and said she did not know anything about the lights, but would see that lights were turned oft' in future. The matter of 370 feet of 80 inch drain being placed below the water table was discussed. The City Engineer reported that if it was constructed in this manner, it would appear that the pump would be operating continuously for underground water. He reported thatbthe project engineer had stated that he was reporting the condition. After some discussion regarding work on Reservoir, it was decided to start the concrete work.
