M. January 7, 1936., Upon Roll Call the following aldermen answered present. Vordahl Bidwell Smith Conrad Bray Reardon Law The minutes of December 17th and December 27th were read and approved. A. B. Bartholf appeared before the Council and asked for a permit to build a Garage 16 by 20 on his property on Main Street to cost approximately :0175.00. It was moved by Law and seconded by Conrad that the permit be granted. The motion carried. I B. M. Harris, President of The Yelllwstone Bank of Laurel appeared before the Council with request that Council authorize the City Treasurer to release 45000 of Yellowstone County Bonds maturing 1 January 1, 1936 placed with him to secure City deposits. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Vordahl that the City Treasurer be authorized to release said Yellowstone County Bonds amount to; 5000.00. Upon Roll 1 Call all aldermen present voted Aye and the motion carried. I Mr. Harris also requested the City Council. to accept 410,000 i* Bonds of the City of Laurel, Montana, being Bonds numbered Seven to Thirteen inclusive and fifteen to twenty -seven inclusive, of the 1916 Funding Bonds of the said City to secure City deposits. It was moved by Opnrad and seconded by Vordahl that the City Treasurer be authorized to accept said bonds as security for City deposits placed in the Yelllwstone Bank in Laurel: Upon Roll Call all aldermen present voted. Aye and the motion carried. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Smith thUt the City Attorney be instructed to start proceedings to refund, the $11,000 worth of 1916 Funding Bonds, same to be paid in, ten years. The motion carried. , 1 The resignation of Wm. Fly as Chief of Police to tate effect December 23rd, was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded I by Conrad that the resignation of Wm. Fly' be accepted. The motion carried. The Mayor reported that he had appointed H.E.Herbert to act as Chief of Police from Dec. 23rd until nest Council meeting, but on account of his duties as Deputy Sheriff he could not act after Jan. lst and Mayor Broughton appointed Herbert Bailey. He also stated that he had appointed II Herbert Bailey as Special Police Officer of the City of Laurel. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Sidwell that the appointiient be approved. Upon Roll Call all aldermen present voted Aye and the motion carried. The Bills for the month of December were referred to the Finance Committee, and after due deliberation the committee reported back recommend ing the payment of the following bills. The motion carried. The Treasurer's report for the month of December was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Sidwell that the report be approved. The motion carried. The City Clerk's report for the month of December was presented and read. It was moved by Lao and seconded by Reardon that the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Health Officer for the month of December wasjresemted and read. It was moved by baw that the report be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Smith and the motion carried. The report of the Police Judge for the month of December was presented and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Smith that the report be accepted and placed on file. The motion carried. The report of the Chief of Police for the month of December was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Smith that the report be accepted and placed on file. The motion carried. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 453 Resolution No. 453 being a resolution transferring our Hundred Ninety -seven and 86/100 Dollars from the 1916 Funding; Sinking Fund to the 1916 Funding Bond Interest Fund, was kresented` and read. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Bidwell that Resolution No 453 be passed and adopted. Upon Ro11 Call all aldermen present Voted Aye and said Resolution No. .453 was declared passed and adopted. Minutes of the City Council of Laurel January 7, 1936 RESOLUTION NO. 454 Resolution No. 454 being a Resolution authorizing the State Highway Commission of the State of Montana to change the Grade of Certain Streets of the City of Laurel in oonstruoting an underpassing at Laurel and releasing the State Highway Commission and the State of Montana from any damage claims because of the changing of the Grade. After some dis- cussion regarding the kind of pipe to be used in installing water main it was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon that the Rssolution be amended to read standard cast iron 12 inch water main. Upon Roll Call all aldermen voted Aye era-to the amended Resolution and said Resolution No. 454 was declared passed and adopted. Mayor Broughton appointed all the members of the Council to act on Committee on Underpass Project. J. J. Parker and Dr. I. N. Smith representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars, appeared before the Council requesting that they be given first chance to sponsor a Carnival this summer. It was moved by Law and seconded by Reardon that the Veterans of Foreign Wars be given first chdnce provided they pay for all water used by Carnival and Police the grounds. The motion carried. After some discussion regarding Box cars and lumber etc on Thornton's property South of the mill, it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Smith that the City Attorney be instructed to write to Mr. Thornton requesting him to remove cars, also to call Mr. Thornton's attention to the fact that a steam engine was being operated within the limits of the City of Laurel, without proper spark arrester, which also constituted a fire hazzard.
