November 16, 1937
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the
Council Chamber and was called to order by Mr. Conrad, President of the
Council at 7:30 o' clock P. 1J. November 16, 1937.
Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present:
Geo. H. Smith
Scoarse
Thomson
Conrad
VTooters
Gomer
L aw
The minutes of November 2nd were read and approved.
An application for a permit by David Schmidt to construct a frame and
painted garage, concrete block foundation, on Lots 7 and S. Block 11, Yellow-
stone Subdivision was presented and read. It was moved by. Wooters and
seconded by Gomer the permit be granted. The motion carried.
An application for a permit by Theo. D. Tintinger, Laurel Exchange, to
erect a sign 20"Y-7' over the sidewalk at 207 11% Main St. was presented and
read. It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Scoarse the permit be granted
and the sign hung according to city specifications. The motion carried.
! r. Conrad had to leave and it was moved by Wooters and seconded by
Scoarse ("hat Mr. Law,be nominated to act as chairman. The motion carried.
A letter was read from Harry Penninger of the Yellowstone Motor Company,
in regards to storing the fire truck and asked that the contract be drawn to
read X30.00 instead_ of r?20.00 per month. After discussion it was moved by
Gomer and seconded by gooters the fire truck be stored in the City barn. The
motion carried.
The annual tax bills for Qp51.78 and ,`?45.36 were presented. It was
moved by Geo. Smith and seconded by 'PTooters the bills be paid. The motion
carried.
The City Clerk reported that the 1/6 of Lots 13114,15, Block 1, Last
Laurel were not owned by the County as shown by the records of the County
Clerk and Recorder, but belonged to Mae Cramer and showed delinquent taxes
for 1935 and 1936 of ,p5.34.
This being the tine set for receiving bids for the construction of
water mains on First Avenue, the City Clerk produced proof of publication
in the Laurel Outlook and was instructed to open and receive all bids. A
bid from Barry O'Leary for 52,808.50 was received. The matter was referred
to the Water Committee and a short recess declared.
The 11, ayor arrived and presided.
Mr. Thomson was excused.
The committee reported back recommending that the bid from Barry O'Leary
be accepted. It was moved by t`,Tooters and seconded by Law the report of the
Water Cona-nittee be approved and the bid accepted. Upon roll call all aldermen
present voted aye and the motion was declared passed.
1r. Slack, salesman for the Adams Company, appeared before the Council
in regards to selling a used motor grader. After discussion it was decided
the matter could be disposed of within.th.e next few days.
The City Engineer presented the matter of buying gravel from the County
for concrete for cabins at Riverside Park. After discussion it was moved by
tivooters and seconded by Geo. Smith the gavel be purchased from the County.
Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and the motion was declared
passed.
The Mayor reported havinC received corn-plaints about oil trucks parking
around town and becoming a nuisance. It was decided the City Attorney contact
the truckers and try to arrange for a parking lot.

A letter from the Census Department in regards to assistin in the
unemployment ceases was read.
It was moved and seconded we do now adjourn, The motion. carried.
City Clerk.
