HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 11.02.1937Minutes of the City Council of Laurel November 2, 1937 The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber and was called to order by Mr. Conrad, President of the Council, at 7:30 o'clock P. E. November 2, 1937. Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present: Scoarse Geo. H. Smith Conrad Thomso n Wooters Gomer Dr. Smith Law The minutes of October 19th and 26th were read and approved. Mr. Law, Chairman of the Fire Committee, reported that Harry Penninger at the Yellowstone Motor Company would store the fire truck for ; 20.00 per r;.onth and on the same terms. It was moved by Thomson and seconded by VJooters the fire truck be moved from the New Deal Garage to the Yellowstone Motor Company. The motion carried. The Mayor arrived and presided. The report of the Police Judge for the month of October was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Law the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police Officers for the month of October was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by 1'Jooters the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Water Department for the month of October was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Scoarse the report be approved. The motion carried,. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of October was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Thomson the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Clerk for the month of October was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Scoarse the report be approved. The motion carried. An application for a permit by 1%att Gaggio to construct a frame and painted garagey cement block foundation, size 16x22 on Lots 6 and 7,, Block 16, Nutting Addition, was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Scoarse the permit be granted. The motion carried. A bill to Barry O'Leary for ?')210.00 was presented. After some discussion of the price on moving it was moved by Law and seconded by Wooters the bill be allowed with the exception of ;;)5.00 until the matter was straightened out. The motion carried. The bills for the month of October were referred to the Finance Committee and after due deliberation, the comrittee reported back recommend- ing the payment of the following bills: R. Railway Co. 887.95 It was moved by Law and seconded by Wooters the report of the Finance Committee be accepted and warrants issued in the manner recommended by the committee. The motion carried, This being the time set for receiving bids for the construction of water main and appurta ces thereto, the City Clerk presented proof of publication in the Laurel Outlook and reported mica, bids received. After discussion it was moved by Thomson and seconded by Wooters bids be re-advertised for a contractor to lay water mains an First Avenue. The motion carried. RESOLUTION N0. 482 Resolution No. 482, being a resolution transferring Six Hundred Dollars and no/100 (qp600.00) from the General Fund to the Police Fund, was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Thomson Resolution No. 482 be passed and adopted. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and the motion was declared passed. Mr. Thomson, Chairman of the Street Committee, reported that gravel was being purchased from the County at a price to the city or individual of 7W per yard and 111. 11. Baker and city trucks were hauling. The City Engineer reported a fraction of Lots 13, 14 and 15, Block 1, East Laurel, where the city machine shed is located, was now owned by the County. After discussion it was moved by Conrad and seconded by Thomson the City Clerk be authorized to purchase the fraction of Lots 13, 14 and 15. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and the motion was declared passed. After some discussion in regards to reserving Block 10, Laurel Yellowstone Subdivision, it was moved by Gomer and seconded by Wooters the City Council withdraw any objection to selling lots in that block.
