September 7, 1937
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in
the Council Chamber and was called to order by Mayor Broughton at 7:30
otclock P. M. September 7. 1937.
Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present:

Geo. H. Smith
Scoarse
Conrad
Wooters
Dr. Smith

Law
The minutes of August 17th were read and approved.
Mr. G. H. Shearer appeared before the Council in regards to the
working hours of the pump house employees. It was explained that Mr,
Brohaugh was working under contract and that the night helper paid
by the City was working an eight hour shift.
The report of the Police Officers for the month of August was
presented and read. It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Scoarse
the report be approved. The motion carried.
Pers. Robert Burns, Mrs. Theodore Johnson, Mrs. A. M. Olafson and
Mrs, D. H. Myers appeared before the council in regards to oiling the
streets. The matter was discussed at length and the cost of oiling and
necessary procedure was explained.
Mr. Jim Dix appeared before the council in regards to selling fire
extinguishers to the City. It was moved by Thomson and seconded by
Wooters the matter be referred to the Fire Committee. The motion
carried.
Mr. C. A. Duncan, Fire Chief, appeared before the Council in regards
to moving the fire truck to a city building and the matter of added
expense was discussed. It was moved by Law and seconded by Thomson the
matter be tabled indefinitely. The motion carried.
The report of the Police Judge for the month of August was presented
and read. It was moved by Law m d seconded by Scoarse the report be
approved. The motion carried.
The report of the Water Commissioner for the month of August was
presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Law the report
be approved. The motion carried.
The report of the City Treasurer for the month of August was
presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Thomson the
report be approved. The motion carried.
The report of the City Clerk for the month of August was presented
and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Scoarse the report be
approved. The motion carried.
The bills for the month of August were referred to the Finance
Committee and after due delibera tion the committee reported back
recommending the payment of the following bills:

Mr. F. E. Jacobson appeared before the Council in regards to
boulevard improvements and wires interfering with trees. It was
explained that there were no regulations on service wires. Mr.
Jacobson also protested renting cabins to tenants at Riverside Park.
An application for a permit by F. E. Jacobson to construct a frame
and painted garage, approximately 14x20, concrete foundation, to cost
approximately $100.00 at 107 E. Fifth Street, was presented and read.
It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Dr. Smith the permit be granted.
The motion carried.
An application for a permit by Peter D. Thomson to add room size
8x14, concrete foundation, frame and painted at 509 Birch Avenue, was
presented and read. It was moved by Gomer and seconded by Conrad the
permit be granted. The motion carried.
An application for a permit by Carl Lehr to construct a frame house
on Lot 10, Block 5, Laurel Yellowstone Subdivision, which was denied
because of an unsatisfactory foundation and reported to be completed, was
discussed. It was moved by Gomer and seconded by %homson the permit be
granted. The motion carried.

A bond with the Maryland Casualty Co. for T. A. Rigney, 'Plater
Commissioner, City Engineer and Street Commissioner for N3000.00 for
the term of one year was presented fot, approval. It was moved by Law
and seconded by Scoarse the bond be Epproved. The motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 348
Ordinance No. 348, being an ordinance revising and amending Section
94 of Article 11 of Chapter 3 of Ordinance No. 228, relating to the
duties of Water Commissioner, was presented and read. It was moved by
Conrad and seconded by Scoarse Ordinance No. 348 be provisionally passed.
Upon roll call all aldermen present voted_ aye and the ordinance was
declared provisionally passed.
RESOLUTION NO. 481
Resolution No. 481, being a resolution charging off funds deposited
with Kountze Brothers, Bankers of New York Cl-ty, a designated depository,
was presented and read. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Wooters
Resolution No. 481 be passed and approved. Upon roll call all aldermen
present voted aye and the resolution was declared passed and approved.
The City Engineer presented the matter of P. A. Wold making
application for curbing and requesting a 92 ft. radius for driveway,
and the cityts specifications are 41 ft. After discussion it was
moved by Law and seconded by Geo. Smith the matter be referred to the
Street & Alley Committee with authority to act. The motion carried.
Mr. Scoarse presented the matter of moving the speed limit sign on
Highway No. 10 east to Locust Avenue. After discussion it was moved by
Conrad and seconded by Scoarse the Highway Commission be contacted and
requested to move the speed limit sign to Locust Avenue on Highway No.
10 east. The motion carried.
It was moved and seconded we do now adjourn. The motion carried.
