HomeMy WebLinkAboutSpecial City Council Minutes 08.11.1937Minutes of the City Council of Laurel August 11, 1937 The City Council of the City of Laurel met in special session in the Council Chamber to fix the levy and to consider the matter of the acceptance of the Continental Filling Station Building, and was called to order by Mayor Broughton at 7:30 o'clock P. M. August 11, 1937. Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present: Conrad Geo. Smith Scoarse Thomson Wooters Dr. Smith Lava The City Clerk read the call of the meeting. - The Nlayor presented the matter of the Continental Oil Co. offering their present filling station building to the City without charge provid- ing it be moved. Mr. MacDonald, President of the Commercial Club, appeared before the Council and presented future possibilities for the use of the building if moved to the 1% P. Park. After discussion it was moved by Wooters and seconded by Dr. Smith the Continental filling station building be accepted. Upon roll call Conrad, Geo. Smith and Law voted no and Scoarse, Thomson, VVTooters arid Dr. Smith voted yes and the motion was declared passed. After further discussion it was moved by Law and seconded by Thomson the matter be referred to the Park Committee and report at the next meeting. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye except Conrad and Geo. Smith who voted no and the motion was declared passed. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Thomson the N. P. be contacted for a permit to move the building on to the N. P. Park. The motion carried. The mill levy for the fiscal year was presented and read. After discussion it was moved by Dr. Smith and seconded by Law two mills be levied in the General Fund for the Police Department budget. Upon roll call Conrad, Geo. Smith and Thomson voted no and Scoarse, Wooters, Dr. Smith and Law voted yes and the motion was declared passed, After discussion it was moved by Law and seconded by Conrad the mill levy be fixed as follows: General - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 9.45 Hills Street - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 4.25 Park - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 3.00 Library - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2,00 Revolving Fund No, 1 - - - - - - - .33 " Light No. 1 P.Iaintenance - - - - - - .37 Light No. 2 Maintenance - - - - - - .10 1921 Funding Bonds - Interest - - - 1.50 " 1921 Funding Bonds - Sinking - - - 7.00 1923 Waterworks "At` - - - - - - - - 4.25 tt 1923 Waterworks "B" - - - - - - - - 2.00 rr ? 1936 Refunding - - - - - - - - - - 1.25 i 35.50 u Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and the motion was declared passed. 1,1r. Price asked for a ten day leave of absence. It was moved by ."looters and seconded by Dr. Smith the request be granted. The motion carried. It was moved and seconded we do now adjourn.
