HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 07.06.1937Minutes of the City Council of Laurel July 6, 1937 The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber and was called to order by Mayor Broughton at 7:30 otclock P. M. July 6, 1937. Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present : Geo. H. Smith Scoarse rooters Gomer Law The minutez of June 15th were read and approved. The report of the Health Officer for the month of June was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Gomer the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Water Commissioner for the month of June was presented and read. It was moved by Gomer and seconded by Wooters the report be approved. The motion carried, The report of the Chief of Police for the month of June was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Scoarse the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the Police Judge for the month of June was presented and read. It was moved by hooters and seconded by Scoarse the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Clerk for the month of June was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Gomer the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of June was presented and read. It was moved by Law fIn.d seconded by Scoarse the report be approved. The motion carried. A letter from the City Treasurer relative to delinquent tax collections accrued to closed accounts and asking for a resolution to transfer the funds.was presented and read, It was moved by Scoarse and seconded by Wooters the City Attorney prepare a resolution. The motion carried. An application for a permit by Frank Blain to erect a garage size 10x12 from car door material to be painted at 605 E. Fifth Street was presented-and read. It w@.s moved by Law and seconded by Scoarse the permit be granted. The motion carried, The bills for the month of June were referred to the Finance Committee and after due deliberation the committee reported back recommending the pa yment of the following bills: R. The motion carried. A letter from Wayne Willis, Chief of Police, relative to pur- chasing police caps was presented and read. After discussion it was moved by Geo. Smith and seconded by Law the matter be referred to the Commercial Club. The motion carried. A letter from the Secretary of the L. L. Club relative to oil trucks and tanks parking in front of the club house at all hours was presented and read. After discussion it was moved by Gomer and seconded by Wooters trucks be prohibited from parking in front of the L. L. Club house. The motion carried. It was moved by Geo. Smith and seconded by Wooters the bid for water tower from S. M. Thornton which was withdrawn be returned unopend. The motion carried. A letter from the Montana Municipal League relative to a convent3n in Missoula in July was presented and read. After discussion it was moved by Wooters and seconded by Geo. Smith, no delegates 'be sent to this convention. The motion carried. Mr. Conrad and Mr. Thomson arrived and participated in the further deliberation of the meeting. A letter from the Works Progress Administration relative to budgeting for sponsor's contributions was presented and read. Applications for sidewalk and curb were presented and read. After discussion it was moved by Law and seconded by Wooters the applicants be notified to make deposits of the full amount. The motion carried. After further discussion it was moved by Law and seconded by Conrad the matter be referred to the Street Committee with authority to act, t1pon roll cal1-?.all,aldermen present voted aye and the motion was declared passed. The Water Commissioner presented the matter of adding surcharge to water accounts on the Thornton tract excluded from the City limits. After discussion the matter was referred to the Water Committee for investigation. S. Treasury Bonds 16 000.00 30,000.00 It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Thomson the collateral be approved. The motion carried. The City Treasurer presented $9,000.00 worth of bonds for additional security to cover tax money collected in June, as follows: 2 3/4 Treas. The motion carried. It was moved by Conrad and seconded by Law the U. S. Treasury Bond No. 24732B for $5,000.00 be returned. The motion carried. Mr. Thomson presented the matter of delinquent water accounts. After discussion it was moved by Wooters and seconded by Scoarse the City Attorney sue to collect from the four water users outside the City limits whose water is shut off and they not be allowed to run over two months in the future.
