HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 09.06.1938Minutes of the City Council of Laurel I September 6, 1.938 The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber in the City H&11 and was called to order by Mayor Conrad at 7:30 ofelock P. Y. September 6, 1938. Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present, Goo. Smith Dr. Smith Thoms on Scoarse Graves Gomer Law The minutes of August 16th and 30th wore read and approved, Mrs. Palmer appeared before the Council and asked if the council would consider painting the doivnstairs of the City Hall by furnishing the paint and the IN1.Y.A. would furnish the labor, It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Scoarse the matter be referred to the Purchas- ing- corunittee with authority to act, The motion carried. Mrs. H. E. Smith appeared before the Council in regards to having the garbage burner on the back of Lot 18, Block 1. Laurel Realty Sub. removed. It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Gomer the burner be removed, The motion carried, IvIrs* Wo L. Orndorff appeared before the Council asking for per. mission to tap on to water main an East Sixth Street and Date Avenue and to pipe the water to a tract of land outside the city limits. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Scoarse the report be approved. The raotion cartied, The report of the City Treasurer for the month of August" preum sented and read. After discussion bf the accounts showing red balances it was roved by Scoarse and seco-nded by Dr. Smith the Finance Cormiittee make recoromendat ions at the next meeting and notify the City Attorney in time to prepare resolutions, The motion carried, of the Treasurer It was moved by Law and seconded by Gomer the report/be approved, The motion carried. The re-nort of the Police Officers forthe month of August was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Scoarse the report be approved. Theinotion carried. 1'he report of the Police Judge for the month of August was presented and read, It was moved by Law and seconded by Thomson the report be a,-.,rD-n 1 approved, The mot*on carried, An application for a permit by Alec Reiter to move a building size 12x20 from 314 Durland Avenue to Lots 11 and 12., Block 10, Yellow- stone Sub, and place on concrete foundation and enlarge to size 20x20, was presented and read. It was moved by Goner and seconded by Graves the permit be granted. The motion carried. An application for a permit by lVirs. 0. C. Cooper to construct a frame and painted modern dwelling on Lots 13, 14, and 15, Block 6, East Laurel was presented and read. It was moved by Law and seconded by Goner the pemit be granted. It was moved by Gomer and seconded by Graves the permit be granted. The motion carried, An application for a permit by Fred Griffey to construct a frame garage on concrete foundation on Lots 14 and 15, Block 15, Laurel Realty Second Subdivision, was presented and read, It was moved by Graves and seconded by Comer the permit be granted, The m,otion carried, IA. letter from the kvlontana Highway De,partment, granting permission to place the new water main within the �.iighway right of way limits bn U* S. Highway No. 310 between the pump house and the city limits, was presented and r(ead. A letter from 1�1:* B. Foote, Director of Division of Water and Sewer, State Board of Health, showing results of analysis of'eater samples taken from test pits dug on an island west of the pump house., was presented and read, A letter from W. F. Cogswell, Secretary of the State Board of Health, CD stating that the board could not approve of the discharge of untreated sewage from the south side of Laurel to the Yellowstone River, was presented and read. A letter frog., F,, F's, Palmer, City Engineer, of Forsyth., enclosing his report on his conclusions after examining the water system at Laurel, via s presented and read. RESOLUTION NO, 500 Resolution No. 500, ., being a resolution levying and assessing a special tax against certain property designated as garbag-6 District No. 10 was presented and read for final pa stage and approval, The City Clerk produced proof of Wblication in the Laurel Outlook and reported no protests received, It was rn.oved by Thomson and seconded by Scorse Resolution No. 500, b_ finally passed and approved_,. The City Clerk produced proof of publication in the Laurel Outlook and reported no protests re'ceived. Dr. Smith presented the rnatt-dr is issuing licenses to peddlers who do lot reside in the city. The matter was referred to a cornnittee and City Attorney for a report. Dr. Smith also presented. the,. matter of the gutter recently installed in the block on Main Street between 1,;Toiitana and Colorado Avenues, stating that the owners were not satisfied with the drainage. The City Engineer re-k....jorted that it would be repaired. It was roved and seconded we do now adjourn until 7:30 o'clock P.
