he Council Chamber and was called to order by Mayor Conrad at 7 : 0

It was moved by haw and seconded. by Gomer the report of the Finance
co=ittee be accepted and warrants issued in the manner recommended,.
by the committee, The motion carried.
The report of the Police offi.cers for the month of July was
Pres n ed and. read., It wasp. moved by Thomson and seconded by Scoarse
the report be approved.. The motion carried.
The report of the Police Judge for the month of July was presented
and. read.. It was moved. by Law and seconded by Graves the report b
approved. The motion carried,
The report of the City Treasurer for the month. of July was
presented and. read., It was moved by haw and seconded by Graves the
report be approved, The notion carried,
An application ion for a permit by the occident Elevator Oo. to
enlarge office with concrete fo undat ion , tin roof, was presented and
read. It was moved by Graves and seconded by Goner the permit be
granted, The motion carried,
An application for a pexTrti.t by Schessler & Sons to install two
underground gasoline storage tanks and t0'e gasoline pumps on Lots 14
and 15, Block 5, Laurel fealty Sub.,, was presented and read,It was
.caved by Wooters and seconded bar Dr* Smith the application be referred
to the Street and. Alley Cormiittee with authority to act, The motion
carried*
Property owners petitioned the City Council to have the City
construct and lay a two inch cast iron water pipe on Alder Avenue
between Fifth and Sixth streets, in which Petition they agreed to
have the cost of Ten Dollars per lot, respectively, assessed in the
same manner as Special Improvement Distri.ct assessments are levied
over a period not exceeding f iv e years, It wqs moved by Thomson and
seconded by Br„ Smith the petition be accqDted and work commenced as
soon as possible. The motion carried.
RESOLUTION N0-, 497
Resolution No. 497, being a resolution transferring certain funds
of the City of Laurel, was presented and read.. It was moved 'by Thomson
and seconded by Scoarse the resolution be passed and adopted... Upon roll
call all aldermen present voted aye and saidd resolution was deet ared
passed and adopted.
The City Engineer asked for a leave of absence of four days. It
was moved by Law and seconded. by Wooters the request be granted, The
raot ion carried*
The matter of paying qualified electors for circulating petit ors
for the bond issues was discussed. It was decided by the Council to
pad' 06#00 for said services, Thereupon it was moved by Thomson and
seconded by deo* Smith Wm.

services. The motion carried,,
This being the time set for receiving bids for the construction
of concrete did-emalk in front of Lots 16 and. 17, Block 9, East Laurel
Sub., the City Clerk produced proof of publication in the Laurel
Outlook and reported no bide received.. Thereupon, it wasmoved by
Thomson and seconded by Seoarse the City proeeed to construct the
sidewalk with W P .A. Labor and assess the -owners with the actual cost
to the city-. The motion carried,
RESOLUTION NO, 498
Resolution No, 498, being a resolution levying and assessing a
tax upon all property served by replaced water mains in 19,38 8 of the
City of Laurel., to defray the cost of making improvements i said
City or district, ws presented and read. It was moved by Lair and
seconded by Graves Resolttioia No 8 be passed and adopted, U e
roll call all aldermen present voted aye and the resolution was
declared passed and adopted,
RESOLUTION NO, 499
Resolution No 4991, being a resolution levying and assessing
a special tax against property herein described for tapping i to
tru4k line sewer created. by Special Improvement District No, of
the City of Laurel, was presented and read. It a ov d Law

Upon roll all aldermen preset voted aye and said resolution was
declared provisionally passed.
A .letter from the Montana Highway Commission disapproving
the claim of the City of Laurel. for $230.04 for pumping expense
at the underpass, was presented and. read.
A bond for lost warrant No. 12935, dated July 51 1938, draw,
on the eater Fund in favor of yrs. H. E. Marshall, wqs presented
and. read, It was moved by Graves and seconded by Wooters the bon d
be approved and a duplicate warrant be issued, The motion carried,

Gomer the City Attorney be directed to draw an ordinance amending
the ordinance covering license for carnivals to read $500000 for
license, Upon roll call all aldermen present m ted afire and the
motion was declared passed.
It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Scoarse a blanket order
be placed for two carloads of cement in order to be protected on price
as requested by the Thompson Yards, The moa on carried ,
A short recess was declared and the Finance committee retired to
coiisider the budget, The conraittee reported back recommending the
budget for the Legal. Dept, be increased to 0500.00 lus an alto a + e
for stenographic hire, The motion carred*.
It was moved by Dro Smith and seconded by Geo,, Smith the budget..
as a whole be approved. The motion carried.
Mr. Alem LaBar appeared before the Council representing the
Rooster Club and asked for permission to sponsor a motorcycle .'show
on the lots now used as a baseball diamond.. It was moved by Thomson
and seconded by Scoarse permission be granted., The motion carried,.
Mr. Ranger, City Treasurer, asked for a leave of sbsenee and the
matter of a deputy being appointed was discussed. It was moved b7
r, Smith and seconded by Scoarse the ratter be referred to the
Finance e omnit tee with authority to act, The motion carried,
It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Wooters the leve- for
Garbage District No. 2 be 0� per lot* The motion carried*
It was moved by Drs Smith and seconded. by Wooters that this
meeting be adjourned until 7:30 o t c lock P. m, August 8, 1938. The
motion carried -
