Conrad, President of the Council at, , 0 o 1 c . ock P. M. January 18, 1938. Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present Thomson Geo,, Smith Scoarse Conrad Woofier Gomer Dr. Smith Law The minutes of January4th were read and approved,, It was moved. by Law and seconded b Thomson the bill for $27000 for a fire call December 25J. 1937 be paid. The motion carried Mr. Lair,, Chairman of the Fre Co nififiee., reported. that he had met with the firemen and that the Yellowstone Motor Company would consider ztbririg the fire truck. Mr. A. Duncan appeared before the council and presented a letter from the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department recommending in that the fire truck be placed iia a commercial garage or a driver be provided for the truck located in the city machine abed and other recormendat ions.. It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Law the matter be tabled until the next meeting and the Fire Co=nittee contact the Yellowstone Motor Company in regards o placing he fire truck there and report back, The motioia carred. An application for a permit by Harold S. VanNice to erect a frame store building with imitation brick finish, concrete foundation, size 12x30, on the west half of Lot 1, Block 9.,:East Laurel,, to coat appro -m i afie , $300.00, was presented and read. It was requested that the pennit be corrected to read that the building would be removed at the end o oiae year, It was moved by 8coar a and seconded by Gomer the permit be granted with the correction made, The motion carried* Mr. S. S. Bliss, Frank Baird and J, J, Parker, representing the Veterans of Foreign ears appeased before the Council and asked for permission to sponsor the net carnival in Laurel, It was moved b Dr. Smith and seconded. by Woo ers the request be granted,, The mot -ion carried* The Veterans of Foreign ears Committee also inquired about renting a building at Riverside Park for their meetings stating that they could not afford to pad` the $10..00 charge* After discussion it was moved by Wootera and seconded by Dr. Smith the City waiveheir Dortion of the rent n .favor of the Veterans of Foreign ears The motion c arried* An application for a permit by Ivan C. Lyons to erect a frame and painted house,, sewer to be connected to 420 Sixth Avenue, rock and concreteou da 1 on on Lot 8 ,Block 2., East Laurel. Park Subdivision., was presented and read* It was mored by Lawand seconded by S c oars a the permit be granted, The motion arried,* An application for a permit byC. cooper to erect a frame and painted garage, brick foundation, on Lots ll and 12, Block 3,, :naafi Laurel., was prese4ted and read, It was moved. by Gomer and seconded by Wootera he permit be gra4ted, The motion carried.* The report of the City Water Department for the month of December was presented and read. It was moored by Law and seconded by Scoar e the report be appr€ ved.,, The motion, carried, The Ater Departmeiat was instructed to tighten up on collec .ons* The report of the city Treasurer for the morith of December was presented and read, It was moved by Thomson and secondee by Scoarae the report be approved. Fund and Fifty-seven Dollars a d 85/100 ($57,85) from Special. Improvement District No. 68 Fund to the General Fund, was presented and read.. It was moved by Lam' and seconded by Scoarse Resolution Not 483 be passed and. adopted. The Citi' Treasurer presented five Federal. The motion carried, The City Treasurer reported that Yellowstone County, Montana 4-1%-. 8 and City of ;laurel,,, Montana 4-1% .. 38 bonds amounting to $6,,.000 had been deposited with him as securit7 for deposits by the Yellowstone Bask and on account of the funds bei.ng reduced he seeurity had been s re ar. Am ed by him to the bank o It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Dr.. 8ynit his action be approved,. The motion carried.. Property owners petitioned the city Council to have the City eons tract and lay a two inch cast iron water main on Wyoming and Colorado .venues between Fifth and Sixth streets, in which petition they agreed to have a cost of 010.00 per lot assessed in the same manner as Special. Improvement district assessments are levied over a period not exceeding five years. It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Wooters that the petitions be accepted and the work of installing the eater main be i commenced as soon as weather conditions would permit, The motion carri.ed,, After discussing the building of tourist cabins in Riverside Park,, it was decided to suspend expenditure of city funds* Thereupon.. it was moved by ` hoins on and seconded by Geo, Smith that the city discontinue spending city funds on the construction of tourist cabins in Riverside Nark, The motion carred. The City Attorneyreported that a meeting was planned calling together the donors who contributed the funds to purchase the city park. lands at Riverside Park and the taxpayers who were objecting to the construction of tourist cabins i.n the park. The Citi` Co=cil would be invited to hear the discussion, -- Regarding work being done by WPA Labor without cost to the city it was moved by Law and seconded by Wooters that the City engineer supervise the work.. On that aecount interest payments were made which should have been applied on principal and trete is not new sufficient funds nor will there be sufficient funds when all delinquent taxes are paid to retire the principal in full.
