July 5, 1939
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session
in the Council Chamber and was called to order by 1wayor Conrad at
7:30 otclock P. mi. July 5, 1939*
Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present,

The minutes of June 20th were read and approved.
The City Ttea surea ts report for the month of June was pream
sent ed and read* It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Law the
report be approved, The motion carried,
The report of the Iffater Dept. for the month of June was pre-
sented and read, It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Thomson
the report be approved. The motion carried.
The report of the Chief of Police for the month of Jun"

presented and read. It wasmoved by Scoarse and seconded by Mc-

The report of the Police Judge for the month of June was
presented and read.. It was moved by Law and sdeonded bcoarse
the report be approved, The motion carried,

Committee and after due

1t was moved. by Scoarse and seconded by Feuerbacher the report of the
Finance 6omittee be adopted and warrants issued in the manner
rec on mended by the c ormitt ee s The motion carried.
Burdette Rash presented a bill for $5.35 for a windshield in a
1931 Dodge sedan, bro ken by a s t one dislodged by a city worker o
east TvIain Street . It was reported that the indshi had not been
replaced, after discussion it was moved by Law and seconded b
vordah.l the bill be tabled until the car was actnally repaired, The
notion carried,
I' r , J , H. Crutcher presented a bill for extra work done at the
North Park in iTlay amounting to 035,40, Mr . Grutch.er appeared before
the Council in regards to the bill. After discussion it was moved
by Law and seconded by vord.a l the bill be allowed and that in the
Future Mr. Crutch.er t s salary be $25.00 per month, The motion carried,
An application for a permit by Herman Michael to move a frame
building from Lot 10, Block 17, Yellowstone Sub, to Lot 1.6,, Bloc
25, Laurel Realty Second Sub. and remodel, was presented and read..
It was moved by Law and seconded by vord.ahl the permit be granted,
The motion carried.
An application for a permit by Mike DeCarlo to construct a frame
and painted front porch. at 519 Hazel Avenue was presented and read,,
It was moved by Law and seconded. by Scoarse the permit be granted.

was moved by Thomson and seconded by Scoarse the permit be granted,

RESOLUTION NO, 52
Resolution No. 522, being a resolution levying and assessing
a -fax upon all property served by replaced water mains in 1939 of
the City of Laurel, Montana., to defray the cost of making improvemelt s
in said city or district J. as presented and read for final passage
and approval, The City Clerk produced proof of publication in the
Laurel Outlook and stated that no protests had been received, 1t was
moved by vo rdah.l. and seconded by Scoarse Resolution No. 522 be finally
passed and approved. Upon roll call all aldermen present voted aye and
said resolution was declared/passed and adopted.,

An application to she State Board of Equalization ion for refund of
tax on 5100 gallons of gasoline being,$255,00, was presented for
approval. It was moved. by Thomson end seconded by Scoarse the
application be approved, `"he motion carried,

After discussion it was moved by Vord.ahl and seconded by Law that
the American Legiori be billed for water used by the earnival at the rate
of $2.50 per day. The motion was lost
It was moved by Thomson and seconded by Goner the American Legion
be billed for water used by the carnival at the minunum rate per month
or o . Upon roll call Feuerbach.er ,, Smith and Law voted no and
Scoarse., Thornso , MeMlanus and. Comer voted yes, vord.a 1. not voting, and
the motion was d.ecl.ared. passed.
After discussion it was moved by Scoarse and seconded by vordahl.
t At the motion of August 2J. 1938, regarding the drafting of an
ordinance fixing the license for carnivals at $500,00 be rescinded,
The notion carried,
Yr. Harold vanNice appeared before the Council in regards to the
amount of license charged for the business of photographer being
excessive, The Mayor referred the matter to the Finance Co raittee
for a report at the next meeting,
A sign location agreement with the Foote Sign Company for Lot 10,
Block 7, Youngs Second Subdivision was presented and. read, After
discussion it was moved by vordah.l and seconded. by Feuerbach.er the
matter be referred to the Street Committee for a report at the next
meeting, The motion carried.
A letter from the Montana Municipal League was presented and read
stating that the annual convention would be held in Anaconda, July 18th.
and 19th ,
The ' ater Conittee l s report on the Ed* Sigsworth water bill was
presented and read, It was moved by Scoaf%se and seconded by McManus
the report be accepted, The motion carried.,
Mr. Scoarse presented the matter of parking reservations for the
Police Department on the south side of Main street in front of their
office and traffic problems at the underpass. After discussion it
was moved by Thomson and seconded by Gomer the matter- be referred to the
Police Committee for a report at the next meeting.. The motion carried..
The Chairman of the Street Conraittee asked to report on the matter
of the Foote Sign agreement at this time,, recommending that the sib
be placed. on Lot 6, Block 7, Youngs Second Sub. and a suitable distance
from the highway. After discussion It was moved. by Thomson and
seconded. by Scoarse the agreement be changed to read. Lot 6, Block 7.
Youngs Second Sub, and that the Mayor and City le r be authorized to
sign the agreement,, The motion carried.,
After sorae discussion of the radius at the corners and driveways
for the curve on the curb, it was moved by Gorier and seconded by
F euerbac er that the standard be adopted for the south. 6" ide with. a
