The City Council off' the City of Laurel met in regular session
in the Council Chamber ar~d Baas called to order by Mayor Conrad at
7:30 otclock P. Tai. May 20, 1941.

The minutes of May 6th and May 13th were read: and approved.
An application for a permit by Geo. Ruff to construct are add3.tion
406 Yellowstone Avenue was presented ar~d read. I~ was moved by
Comer grad seconded by Feu.erbacher the permit be granted. The motion
carrisc~,
l~n applicatic~r~ for a permit by v. J, Gary ~o dear down two rooms
and build an addition on Lots 13 ar~d 14, Block 10, Laurel Realty Sub.
was presented end read. It was moved by Thomson ar~d seconded by
Feuerbacher the permit be granted. The motion carried.

the report be approved, The motion carried.
~'he City Engineer's report was presented and read. gftEr
discussion it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Feuerbacher the City
Engineer be authorized to have the box ear at the reservoir moved to
the sewer plank site to be used for storage facilities. The motion carried.
After further d3.scu~sion it was moved by Vordahl and seconded by
Parker the City Engineer be authorized to purchase a box car and have
it moved to the sewer plant s3.te in addition ~o the one from'.the reser-
v~ir. The motion carried.
,p,. report of the Water Coz~nittee was presented and read ire which
they recommended Joseph Nicholas for the job of pumper and repairman
a~ a salary of X125.00 per month for an eight hour shift. It was moved
by Vordahl ar~d sacoraded by Thomson the report of the committee be
accepted. The mo~3o~ carried.
~ .A report of the Finance Committee was presented and read in vuhich
they recommended that the 13cezase of the Ben Franklin Stare be X3.50
per quarter for r~otior~s and X1.00 per quarter f'or confectionery, a
total of X4.50 per quarter, ef'~'ec~ive the first quarter of 1941; and
tha~G Sectiar~ 200 of the City Ordinances be revised ehang3.r~g the
Photographer ~ s license from `'x`'3.50 to 5 1.00 per quarter and that IV~r. VanNice + s license be based ors this recommendation from the first
quarter i~ 1938. It was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Parker the
re~aort of the Finance Committee be accebted. The motion carr3_ed.
The Finance Committee reported the it approval of the Poll Tax
List. It v~a9 moved by Vordahl. and secoz~d~d by Feuerbacher the
report of the Finance Committee be accepted. The mot3.or~ carried.
A report from the Finance Committee was, presented ar~d read in which they recommended that the county commissiar~ers cor~tir~ue their
eoratribution for the W.P.A. Sev~ing room project. It was moved by
Vordahl and seconded by Gomer the report of the Committee be accepted.
The motion carried.
Pair. F. H. Suddith appeared before the Council st~.ting that 3t was necessary to bring in a~.ditior~al beet labor and that housing was
not available and made application to rent several cabins in Riverside
Park for two or three vueeks. After d3.scussior~ it was moved by Vordahl
and seconded by Gomer the cabins be rented at ~p5.U0 per month for each
cabin. The motion carried.

rspreser~ting the Garden flub, appeared before the council asking that
the city construct a curbing aro~ux~d ~~.e triangular block at the ir~ter-
section of First ar~d Fourth Streets az~d UVasa~i~a~gt~ar~d Idaho Avenues,
stating that they were ready to landscape the block. It was moved by
Thomson and seconded by Parker the curbing be constructed. The motion
carr3.ed.

The mater of a sidewalk across the triangular block a~ the
intersection of First Street and Colorado ,Avenue was discussed. I-t
was moved by Vor+d.ahl and seconded by Thomson the matter be re~'erred
to the Street and ~11ey Committee ~,rith authority to act. The motion carried.
NIA. Chas. Gib in, Mr. Chester Scott and Mr. Vim. Goick, represent-
ing the Commercial Club, appeared before the council ar~d expressed
~ their thanks for the cooperation of the c'Lt~ ire the clean-up campaign,
az~d asked that the five hour parking orz3ixaa~ee be enforced ar~d ghat the sheets be marked for parking spaces. The Mayor reported that the
committee was not reader to report on the petition previously filed but
that the committee had contacted business men about keeping the 3.r cars
~ off of the streets and enforcing the present five hour parking o~dir~ance,

Mr. J. L. Hodges appeared before the Council 3r~ regard to pain~ir~g
the outside of the City HaJ.I. It wa.s moved by Thomson and seconded by
comer the matter be referred to the Finance Committee with authority
to act. The mot3.or~ carried.
ORDINANCE NO , 37l

Yellowstone County Commissioners, The Great V~lesterr~ Sugar Co., l~~erv~.n
W. Gerke, Donald G. Gerke and H. E. Starkey, to discontinue and vacate
certaisa portions of Oa~i Aver~~.e, South Second S~ree~, youth Third Street,
the alley in B~.ock 24 and Black 25, Yellowstone Subdiv3.sio~a and Maple „,venue, the City Clerk presented proof of publ3.cation of the notice of
said hearing in the Laurel ~utl.ook and reported that no protests had
been filed or made. Thereupon, Ordxnanee No. 371, being an ordinance,
diacor~tinui~~, abandoning ar~d ~acat3.r~g portions of cer~.ain streets and
alleys in the City of Laurel, Montana, was presented and read. It
was moved b~ Vord~hl. and seconded by Gomer that Ordinance No. 37~., be
passed and adopted. Upon roil call all aldermen present voted aye and said ordir~anee was declared passed.
Victor Vogel, Miller and Frank appeared before the Couraci~. asking
to rent a building in Riverside Park f or a dance on May 24th. It was
moved by Park~,~ and seconded by Vordahl the building be rented to them
for ~p5.00 and that they furnish a police officer at th8ir expense. The motion carried.
The resignation of Mr. John L. Tubmar~, Aldermani of the Fourth Ward,
was presented and read. It was moved by Gower and seconded by Feuerbacher
the resignation be accepted. The motion carried.
Pd~r. Thomson recomr~ler~ded Alr. C. J. McManus to fill the vacancy as
alde.rmar~ of the 4th ~~1ard, caused by the resignation of Johra L. Tubmar~.
Tt was moved by Gower and seconded by Feuerbacher the appo3.ntment be
approved. The motion carried.

Committee.
The Pa7~k Committee x~resented the mater of building curb a1.on~ tha
south side of the North. Park° and other improvements. ~_fter discussion
it vas moved by Parker and seconded. by Feuerbacher the matter be
referred to the Park Committee with authority to act. The motion carried.
A bond with the Hanford Accident and Indemnity Co. for Philip E.
~ ATOeI, City Treasu~°er, for 10,000 for the term. of two years was pre- I sent ed. ~t was moved by Vordan.l and seconded by comer the bard be
approved. The motion carried.
A bond with the United States Fidelit~r ~C Guaranty Co, for ; 2,000
~ for Rosella Fritz, City Clerk was presented, It w as moved by Vordah~.

RESOLUTION N0. 568
Resolution Tdo. 568, being a resolution providing for the sa1.e az~d
issuance of 'General Sewer Bonds, City of Laurel, Montana, 1941" in the
• amount of ~~25,000, was presented and read. It was moved by V~rdahl and seconded by Thomson ~esolutior~ No, 568 be passed a nd adopted. UpQr~
roll ca11 all aldermen present voted aye and said resolution vas
declared passed.

passed and adopted. Upon roll call alb. a7.dermer~ present voted aye
and said resolution was declared passed.
It was moved by Thomson ar~d seconded b~ Parker that the notice
of sale of the General Sewer Bonds be publ3.shed in two issues of the Bi1lin~s Gazette. The mo~3.on carr3.ed.
~ Letters were read from Black R~ Veatch, Toltz, K3.r~g ar~d Day, Inc.,
and Ralph D. Thomas Associates, consulting engineers, in regard to
reviewing pl.ar~s and specifica~ior~s of the sewage disposal. plant and
giving an opinion on ~Lhe game . I~ v~ras moved by Thomson and seconded
by Feuerbahher that the services of B1.ack R~ Veatch be engaged for an opinion ar~d azaalysis of the plans and specificatiozzs and a copy of the
report be sent to the ~Ior~he rn Pacific xailway Co. The mo~io~ carried.
The Chairman of the Street Committee reported tha~E certain pieces
of sidewalk on Mein Street were in bad repair. The matter was referred
to the Street Committee.
