The minutes of April 15th were read ar~d approved.
The itZayor stated tkia~ this, being fih.e first meeting of the new
eou~eil, nomir~atior~s for President of the Coune3l wou~ci row be in order. I~Zr. Gomer nominated Mr. Thomson. It was moved by Jolley ar~1.
seeor~ded by Parker the nominations be closed and that Mr. Thomson be
declared elected President of the Council. The motion carr3.ed.

ments be approved. After cliscussior~ it was moved by Vordahl and
seconded by Parker that the mod ion be amended that the appointments be
approved, except the appo3ntffie~tt of the Mater Commissioner, said appoint~m.ent to be held in abeyance until a later date. Upon roll ca~.l

and Gomez voted no, and the motion was declared passed. Thereupon, ro~.l

motion carried.

Special Improvement District assessments are levied over a period not'

the petit ion be approved and the work done as soon as possible. The motion carried.

Mrs. Lola C. Cooper, Supervisor of the W.P.A. Sewing room, appeared
before the council. asking that the cit~r assume the rent and ma3.nter~ance
of the building used fog the sewing pro~ec~. The matter was referred to
the Finance Committee ~'or a.r~vestiga~ion ar~d report to the council.
P. H. W3.1.son, Chester Scott, Chas. Giblir~ and ~~m. Goiek, represen~-
ir~g the Commercial Club, appeared before the counc3.7. aski~ the co-
operation of the c~.ty in a city-ride clean-up campaign ox~ May' 1.6th and 1'7th, also for more frequent and regular cl.ean3ng of all a1~.eys. It was
moved b9 Vordahl and seconded by Parker that the city co-operate with
the Cor?mmiercial Club in the clew-up campaign on ~iay l6th ar~d Z7th and
that the matter be referred t o the Park Committee ~o meet with a
committee from the Commercial Glub for further stuffy'. The mot3or~ carried,
~,nr, R. H. Sterrett, Prop. of the Ben Franklin Store, appeared before
the council ire regards to his license for the stare compared w3.th other
I similar businesses.. The matter was referred to the Finance Coxr~nittee
along with Photographer t s ~.3.cer~se for :Ei. S. Var~Niee.
Taxpayers and business mere petitioned the council. reques~i.~ag that an ordinance be enacted regul~~ing the park3.ng of motor vehicles on the
north side of NTa3.n Sheet bet~nreen Colorado ar~d Second avenues to one
hour between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and l2 m3.dnight. After discuss3or~
the mater yvas referred to the Police Committee, Police Off3.eers, and
the Mayor.
After discussion it was moved by Parker and seconded by Comer that
80~ per hour be paid for man, -team atad plow for plowing snow on the
sidewalks. The motion carried.

the posit3.on of assistant Pumper were presented and read. Tt was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Gamer the appl3.cations be referred
~o the Water Committee. The motion carried.
A letter from the Billings U~ilitg Co. was prese~~ed ar~d read
making application for a franchise f'or the- di$tribution of natura3. gas.

bond with the United States Fidelity & Guaranty Co. for ~5(J0.00
for Lou Franzen, Police Judge fora berm of two years, was presented.

A lisp of all persons elig3.ble for poll tax in the City of Laurel was presented. The list was referred to the Finance Committee.

carried.

that the purchase of 2D feed of 24 3r~ch culvert be authorized, the
same to be installed in ,gilder Avenue ar~d that the 18 inch culvert be
removed and installed on the south side of Laurel. The mot3.on carried.
The Mayor reconaner~ded that the Police Dep~r~ment assist the City Treasurer in collecting dog lieer~ses when the po~.3.ceman is off duly
aid tl~.at he be paid X1.40 f`or each license colleted and for each dog
disposed of and ~ha'~ a notice be published 3.n 'the Laurel Outlook. It
was moved by Vordahl and seconded by Gomer the reco~mendatio~s be
carried out. The motion carried.
