City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chambers and was called to order b~ Nayor Thomson at 7:30 o'clock P.l~. October l6, ~~45. .Upon roll ca11. the following ,aldermen answered present: Wold Rodgers V~ilson Smith Feuerbacher Gower Parker The minutes of the last regular meeting; were read and a motion was made by Gower and seconded by Rodgers they be approved as read. Z'he motion carried. Report of the Street Committe regarding inf.~actiona of City Or- dinance on parking of oil trucks and hazardous condition of sidewalks in front of buil~ins of trucking concerns. Alderman Rodgers reported owners contacted had agreed to keep close watch on their drivers and stated they have warned them repeatedly regarding parking of their trucks. ~41go agreed to repair their side~ralks as soon as labor i~ avai~.able to do ~Ghe work. The applications of Donald Scheidecker and George A. I3~.ackford f'or the position at the Pumphouse were presented and read. The V1later committee reported Donald Scheidecker is now serving'°~trial period ~'or the position. .The application of C.W. ti~tood for position on the Poliee fare- m~as presented. The police Committee reported they agreed tp ~~'~.ri~"" a ninety (90) day leave of absence for Wayne ~i11is, Chief' off' Police. in view of the 1.engh3~. of continuous satisfactory service in that capacity, this particular leave of absence granted with no thought ~of establishing a precedent. Lou Franzen was appointed to the P_ulice force for a period of .ninety (9D) days. ~ motion was made by ~5ra~.~h and seconded by Gomer granting of ~.eave of absence and appointment be approved.. The motion carried. I : i Minutes of the City Council of Laurel October 16, 1945 The Mayor. made the appointment of ,aldermen Parker, Mold and Rodgers as a Committee to meet with various C3v3c organizations in regard to plans for a Municipal swimmimg pool. ~ copy of a letter from the State Fire Niarshall to Mr. O.M. Wold regarding the condition of the old warehouse bu3ldin~ on Main Street was presented and read. :~4 motion was made by V?lilson; and seconded by Kodgers NIr. Wold be given a .letter from the City requesting .repair or removal of the building as recommended. The motion carried. The UVater report f'or September 20th was presented and read. motion was made by Wilson and seconded by F~;uerbacher the report be approved. The motion carried. The report of Black & Veatch, consulting engineers, togethar with a letter stating they would be in Laurel October 16th or l7th was presented and refErred to the Water Committed. Mrs Eleanor Grawford was present as Sponsor of ~Ghe Girl Scow Troop to request 'the co-operation of the Council in building a~a~a.out door Fire place in the North Park. She stated they could pay twenty- five dollars ( 25.~~) toward the project. motion was made by Parker end seconded by Feuerbacher to refer to the Park Committee to meet with them for considera-Cion. Thy mot3.on carried. motion was made by Parke, and seconded by Sm3.th the. renewal of the Contract with the Refining Company be referred to the dater Committee and City Attorney. The motion carried.. Kesolution No.628 Resolution No. 628, being a Resolution creating Special Im- provement District No.71. of the G ty of Laurel and ca113.ng attention to Resolution hlo. 627 f'or further particulars motion was made by Parker and seconded by Rodgers Resolution IV'o. 628 be passed. Upon roll call all ,~ldermer~ present voted aye and said Resolution was declared passed. Ordinance No. 386 Ordinance TZo. 386, being an Ordinance providing for the receiving of Bids and the letting of a Contract for the Construct3.on of. Improv- menu in Special Improvement District No. 71. It was moved by Wilson and seconded by Rodgers that the unanimous consent of the Goancil be given to the immediate passage of Ordinance No. 386. Upon roll call a11,Aldermen present vo~ee~ aye whereupon the Mayor declared s-aid motion duly carried. It was moved by Wilson and seconded by Rodgers that ordinance No. 386 be passed as read. Upon roll call all Alderman present voted aye and said Ordinance was declared passed. 2'he City Glerks report #'or the lt~oz~th of Septemn~ater was presented. motion was made by Nilson and seconded by Fsuerbacher the report be approved. A request for a permit. to install ~'o~zr 3,400 gallon tanks on Fraction Nw NW NWT North o~ Railway to be installed according to City Ordinance signed by Roy E. Gibson was presented. It was moved by Comer a.nc~ seconded by Rodgers the. permit be ;ranted. The motion carried. request for a permit to construct a G~ra~e of new material ors lots 3 4, block 2D Laurel Heights Subdivision was presented. It eras moved by Wold and. seconded by Parker the permit be granted. It was moved b~ darker and seconded by Rodgers the permit be granted. The motion carried. ~ A request fora permit to construe a garage on lots 1'7 ~ l~ block 10, Nutting Subdivision, signed by Olive Simpson way pre- sented. It was moved by Rodgers and seconded by Feuerbacher the permit be granted.
