A quorum (3 or more) present, the following action was taken by the Committee: Group Health Insurance Jim Carlson gave an overview of th MMIA health insurance program. Lee Shannon explained what an HMO is (Health Maintenance Organization) and how it works. Emphasis is placed on preventative health care. There was a brief discussion about the group health plan that the Rural Water Systems Insurance Trust has, which is marketed by Steven E. Edwards & Associates of Topeka, Kansas. The premiums are lower than United of Omaha or Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but due to the instability of trusts and there being no local representative, the Committee did not wish to pursue this coverage. The premiums for Blue Cross/Blue Shield is about 3% less than our current premium with United of Omaha, and is guaranteed for 1 year; whereas the United of Omaha premium is on a month to month basis. Andy Loebe suggested that we contact Walt-Menello and see of Omaha will give us a proposal that would be comparable Blue Cross/Blue Shield proposal. if United to the Motion by Bob Graham, seconded by Ron Marshall, to contact Walt Menello for a proposal from United of Omaha and report back to the Committee as soon as possible. Motion carried. Property Insurance The MMIA will now cover property under their insurance program. Page 2 Insurance Committee meeting of June 4, 1990 We have received a proposal from them for a $5,000 deductible plan. We are currently insured with USF&G through the Harris Agency under a $2,500 deductible plan. There is quite a difference in the premium, however, to make a comparable comparison Don has requested a quote for a $5,000 deductible from the Harris Agency. This information was suppose to be here today, but for some reason has been delayed. Motion by Bob Graham, seconded by Ron Marshall to insure with MMIA if the premium is less than the quote from the Harris Agency. Motion carried. This does not include the City's vehicles. Liability coverage is through MMIA and property is through the Harris Agency. The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Don Hackmann City Clerk
