Group Health Insurance
Jim Carlson gave an overview of th MMIA health insurance program.
Lee Shannon explained what an HMO is (Health Maintenance Organization)
and how it works. Emphasis is placed on preventative health care.
There was a brief discussion about the group health plan that the
Rural Water Systems Insurance Trust has, which is marketed by
Steven E. Edwards & Associates of Topeka, Kansas.
The premiums are lower than United of Omaha or Blue Cross/Blue
Shield, but due to the instability of trusts and there being no
local representative, the Committee did not wish to pursue this
coverage.
The premiums for Blue Cross/Blue Shield is about 3% less than our
current premium with United of Omaha, and is guaranteed for 1 year;
whereas the United of Omaha premium is on a month to month basis.
Andy Loebe suggested that we contact Walt-Menello and see
of Omaha will give us a proposal that would be comparable

We have received a proposal from them for a $5,000 deductible
plan. We are currently insured with USF&G through the Harris
Agency under a $2,500 deductible plan.
There is quite a difference in the premium, however, to make a
comparable comparison Don has requested a quote for a $5,000
deductible from the Harris Agency. This information was suppose
to be here today, but for some reason has been delayed.
Motion by Bob Graham, seconded by Ron Marshall to insure
with MMIA if the premium is less than the quote from the Harris
Agency. Motion carried.
This does not include the City's vehicles. Liability coverage
is through MMIA and property is through the Harris Agency.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Hackmann
City Clerk
