The pity ~outaeil of t he City of Laurel met 3.n regular se~9ion in the
Council ~ramber and was called to order bar Mayor Thomson at 8;~~ o+clocJ~ P. M.
Tuesday March 16th, 1948.

T The minutes of the last meeting were presented and read. It was moved by
Parker and seconded by smith the minutes be approved ~s read. The motion carried..
l~r. .A,shley P~oel and fir. led Waddell appeared before the Council in regard
to connecting with the Viewer, a~ outa~.de the pity Limits sewer TTsers. It vas
moved by parker and seconded bar Frse~ury that fir. Noel and Mr. ~"addell be allovu~~ld
to connect with the Sewer, after ginning tk?e required agreement, and payment oP
the states r~saessment. the motion carried.
dir. Merritt Williams appeared before the Couhcil, and 3.ntroduced fir. Lon
~Nileox, Special Insurance 'gent, to .discuss a general Liablity Policy for the pity.
~r. Wilcox suggested an appraisal of all City property. also suggested that the
ity appoint an ~~gent of Records ~o pet it3.on the Board of Fire Underwriters for
rates on bJ.anket policies. It was moved b4 darker and seconded by j~ubman the
Mayor be authorized to appoint an ~oent of Kecords, The motion carried.
Fjhe Mayor appointed the cit~r attorney, pity Engineer and N~r~ Don Wilcox to
appraise the ~it~ properties and to report such re-appraisal to the Council for
~cceptar~ce or re~ectioz~.
fir. ne.rman Schessler appeared befogs the council in regard to the City's
needs for Gravel atad sand for the coming season. No ~ct~.on was taken at this time.
A c1~im fo.~ refund of gasoline tax was presented for approval. It was moved
by Parker and seconded b~ comer the Claim be approved. `j'he motion c arrj.ed..
The Water report for the month of February was pr•esentea. It was moved by Freeburg and seconded by `comer the report be ar~proved. 1'he motion carried.
`j~he Treasurer ~ s report for the month of Y` ebruary was presented. It w~~
movers by smith and seconded by Tubman the report be approved. The motion carried.
An application for a permit try Charles ~ibli~ to construct a 24~c4~ concrete
ar~d Mass block building for Lrive-In, on cotacrete foundation on Lots 9 2~ 1~~ Block 2'7, .~llrard ~'ubdivision, at an, approximate cast of vP7,~~~ was p° esented. It
was moved by Smith and seconded by l~ubman the permit be granted. The motion
carried.
An a lication for a Pp permit by ~e~,ty 1i~~agner to build a frame a!~dition 8x12
on building south of underpass, to be on concrete foundation, at are app oximate cost of ~25~ was presented. It was mo~~ed byr Freeburg ar~d seco~aded bar `comer the
permit be granted. The motion carried,

the request be granted, and the parties notified, The motion carried.
A letter from J. E~ Darhar~ requesting the City tareplacs or repair their
present private water line was pre sente~. and read. It was ~1o~r~d by Parker atad
seconded by Tubman the ~~~ter ~omm3.ssioner ansvuer the letter, making recommendations ~j'he motion carried.

The ~it~r ~lerk~s report for the month of February eras presented. I t was
moved by lu~at~ and seconded by darker the report be approved. The motion carried.

requesting the closing of a portioza of 2nd ~'treet in Block 9, East Laurel
~ubdivisioh, was presented and read. It was moved by ~'arker and seconded by
Smith, the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to sigta such peiti~ion. The
motion carried.
It was moved by lu~unan and seconded by Parlor that a price of ~1.~~ per cubic yard be charged for the present gravel and sand being hauled for the
City, with the sti u~.ation tha~G such sand and gravel be used for street and
a11ey use, only. ~he motion carried.
It was moved by parer end seconded by ~lubman the question of Police prot-
ect 3_on, ~t the `~'ourr~ament be left to the judgement of the N~yor, with aatho~ity taa et. `t'he motion carriee~.
~eep~rt was given on t&~e County Lots oza 8th avenue along the proposed
right-of-war of a drain ditch for the hest end of the City. 'he City engineer
stated the Northern Pacific response was favorable and that an official from
the Mate Highway commission intended to be in the Zity on Thursday to
investigate and dive a decision for his department, Tt was moved by ~`'reebury and seeonded by ubman the matter of p~arch~sing the bounty Lets along the
proposed drain be referre€1 to the Finance ~%ommit~ee ~roith authority to a c~G. ~e
motion carried.
