A delegation headed by ~Iu~h Sweeney a~~eared before the council stating that the CozTmiercial Club and the business men of the City were requesting the City to draw up a Resolution for dedicating a Public Park r:nd naming the same TriOrr~SON PARK, in reeo~nition of the fine work and many hours devoted to the duties and cares of the City, and the r ecreational c enter by the ~~a~or. Thomson has served the pity of Laurel, Trlontana, vvi.t~~ distinction during more than Bevan years; and t~HE~EAS, during these years the pity has made substantial and satisfactory growth in population and taxable value; many new homes have been built and needed business blocks have been constructed; in keeping with the forward movement in sanitation one of t h~; first Viewer ''isposal P1a~ts vas constructed on the Yellor~v- s~one River; the water and sewer systems have been rnainta.ned and extended for the accommodation of the public users; the librar~r building has been enlarged and remodelled; and chiefly among the improvements during his administration are the Swirruning Pool and tithletic Field; his 7a bors have been for the material good of the community; he has served we11 and especially has he had in mind tie w e~fare of the youth off' laurel and the surrounding territory; the guiding hand of the Mayor has always been used in directing personally the work to ~e done and many t times he has actually participated in the work as well as to direct it; and WHEREAS, suitable recognition of his achievements should be rewarded by actionh NC~'U , TH~REPORE, an appropriate name is hereby given this Park and Recreations Canter and no more fi ~~ing testimonial and tribute can~;be given t~~e Honorable Mayor than. that of naming; this .park and rye creati oval c en-ter '~IOM~UN PARK, and it is so named in honor and r expect of ~rT~yor Thomson. g~nd the City purchase a placque and install it an the ~'~ain building when it is finished.
